Description
Nana Asakawa is a twenty year old former fashion college student who appears as a supporting character in the anime film Fureru. She originally studied at the same fashion school as one of the three main characters, Yuta Inohara, but was forced to leave her studies behind due to a stalker who made her daily life unbearable. This experience has shaped her into a reserved and insecure young woman who rarely goes out without being accompanied by her bodyguard, Juri Kamozawa. Despite her outward caution, Nana has a friendly and approachable demeanor that makes people feel at ease around her. Her appearance is somewhat youthful, which contrasts with her more mature and thoughtful interior. She possesses a mental age that is higher than her looks might suggest, and she is deeply considerate of the people around her. This caring nature is one of her defining traits, but it also has a downside: she tends to put others first to the point of being swept along by their problems, which can lead her into trouble. Her considerateness makes her easy to involve in the conflicts of others, and she often finds herself drawn into situations not of her own making because she struggles to refuse when someone needs help. Nana enters the main story when her purse is stolen by a thief on a bridge. The thief is knocked off the bridge by the magical creature Fureru, and Aki Onoda retrieves the purse for her. In the aftermath, the trio of childhood friends—Aki, Ryo Sobue, and Yuta—invite Nana and her bodyguard Juri to stay at their house, and through this arrangement she becomes closely tied to their lives. Her role in the film is intrinsically linked to the stalker subplot. The person harassing her is revealed to be Kohei Shimada, an assistant teacher at her school who is also Yuta's teacher. Kohei has been secretly eavesdropping on Nana and Juri for some time, and matters escalate when Nana is ambushed and wounded while alone. She is hospitalized after the attack but eventually recovers. During her recovery, Juri tells the trio about the extent of Kohei's stalking, which deepens their involvement in helping Nana. After the climax of the film, in which the magical chaos caused by Fureru is resolved and Kohei is arrested by the police, Nana reconciles with the group and remains friends with Aki, Ryo, Yuta, and Juri. Her arc is one of moving from a state of fear and isolation back toward a sense of safety and connection, and she ultimately finds a place among the central group of characters. She does not possess any supernatural abilities or special skills; her relevance to the plot comes from her personal crisis and the relationships she forms with the protagonists. Her primary ability is emotional rather than physical: she has a natural talent for caring about others, even when doing so puts her at risk, and this capacity for empathy allows her to bond quickly with the trio and become part of their circle.
