TV-Series
Description
Kotaro Kawaii is the main protagonist and narrator of the story. When he was in elementary school, he created a slime during a science project that unexpectedly came to life. He named the slime Puniru, and the two have lived together as friends for the following seven years. Now a second-year middle school student, Kotaro is an average fourteen-year-old boy with short blue hair and bluish-gray eyes.
Kotaro's personality is that of a sardonic and secretly sentimental boy. He acts as the straight man of the narrative, constantly reacting with exasperation to the bizarre and chaotic situations Puniru creates. Although he is in the throes of adolescence and tries to act cool and mature, he has a strong but heavily suppressed love for cute things, a trait he actively tries to hide from those around him. This inner conflict makes him a stubborn and slightly twisted individual who often denies his true feelings.
His primary motivation is to live a normal middle school life and navigate his feelings for his upperclassman, Mami Kirara, on whom he harbors a secret crush. At the same time, he struggles to maintain a strictly platonic friendship with Puniru, resisting the increasingly complex bond that forms between them as she constantly seeks his acknowledgment of her cuteness.
Kotaro's role is that of the reactive center of the story. His daily life serves as the foundation for the series, and his relationship with Puniru is the central axis of the narrative. While he sees himself as her creator and friend, Puniru views him as the most important person in her existence, creating a unique dynamic that blends childhood friendship with growing, unspoken romantic tension. His interactions with classmates, such as the energetic Yusuke Nanpa and the wealthy Alice Okanega, further contribute to his chaotic but lively school days.
Over the course of the series, Kotaro undergoes notable development. He is gradually forced to confront his suppressed emotions, including his genuine affection for Puniru and his hidden love for cute things. He slowly moves past his teenage cynicism and learns to be more honest with himself and those close to him.
Kotaro does not possess any supernatural or combat abilities. His defining trait is his extremely quick-witted role as the straight man, capable of delivering deadpan retorts and physical reactions to the absurdity around him. The most unique and fundamental aspect of his character is his latent ability to have unknowingly imbued a simple slime with life, marking him as the unexpected creator of Puniru. His caring, though often grumpy, nature is his primary strength.
