Description
Kaju Nukumizu is the younger sister of the protagonist, Kazuhiko Nukumizu, and a key supporting character in the story. She is a fourteen-year-old second-year student at Momozono Middle School, where she holds the position of student council vice president. Standing at 147 centimeters tall, she has long, straight black hair and large brown eyes, and is widely regarded by her peers as a girl of exceptional beauty and charm.
Outwardly, Kaju presents herself as a model student, excelling in academics, domestic skills like cooking, and social interactions. She is polite, warm, and well-liked by everyone at her school. However, this public persona masks her most defining characteristic: an extreme and devoted brother complex towards Kazuhiko, whom she reverently calls onii-sama. Her primary motivation is her deep love and concern for her brother, largely stemming from their childhood. With their parents often away at work, Kazuhiko was the one who primarily cared for her, leading her to form an exceptionally strong attachment. She worries that he will go through high school without making friends and constantly involves herself in his life to offer advice and support.
As the story progresses, it becomes clear that Kaju's feelings for her brother go far beyond typical familial affection. She admits to her best friend, Asami Gondo, that she harbors romantic feelings for him, though she keeps this a secret from Kazuhiko himself because she knows he only sees her as a little sister and does not want to cause him trouble. Her complex manifests in obsessive behaviors, such as regularly stalking him to know every detail of his life, knowing all his passwords, and having elaborate fantasies about living as newlyweds with him. On one occasion, she attempted to confess her feelings to him indirectly using author Natsume Soseki's famous phrase, the moon is beautiful, but her brother was completely oblivious to the implication.
Despite her own desires, Kaju is largely supportive of her brother’s social life and potential romantic interests, often playfully interrogating the girls he brings home. She also shares his passion for light novels, anime, and manga, having consumed most of the same media he has, which gives them a common interest. Her role in the story is significant as a confidante and observer from the sidelines. She often provides Kazuhiko with emotional insight and advice, and her stalking antics are frequently revealed in story intermissions, offering a humorous yet poignant perspective on his activities. Due to her blood relation to the protagonist, she is considered by fans and in the narrative's context to be the ultimate losing heroine, as she is disqualified from the romantic race from the start.
Kaju possesses several notable abilities. She is an exceptional cook and baker, capable of creating confections and dishes that rival store-bought goods. She is also highly intelligent and possesses a sharp wit; on one occasion, she was able to outmaneuver the cunning Chihaya Asagumo, who was trying to place a listening device on her at Kazuhiko's request. Her most unique skill, however, is her extraordinary talent for stalking her brother, taking candid photographs without being detected.
