Description
Megumi Fushiguro is a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and a grade 2 jujutsu sorcerer. He is the son of Toji Fushiguro, the infamous Sorcerer Killer, and a descendant of the Zenin clan, one of the three great families of jujutsu. After his father's death, he was taken in and mentored by Satoru Gojo, who recognized his potential and shielded him from the clan's influence. He lives with his stepsister, Tsumiki Fushiguro, whose kindness becomes a central pillar of his moral code.

Megumi's personality is characterized by a stoic, pragmatic, and often gloomy demeanor. He is reserved and keeps his emotions tightly controlled, but this masks a strong sense of justice and a deeply held desire to protect good people who are unfairly harmed by curses. He believes a sorcerer's duty is to safeguard civilians, and he is willing to sacrifice himself to achieve that goal. This philosophy is selective: he judges who is worth saving and does not hesitate to let those he considers evil perish. His worldview is shaped by his upbringing and the trauma of losing his family, leading him to view his own life as expendable.

His primary motivation throughout the Culling Game arc is to save Tsumiki, who has been forced to participate in Kenjaku's deadly battle royale after awakening from a coma. This goal drives him to enter the game alongside Yuji Itadori, and it becomes the lens through which all his actions are focused. He is desperate to free his sister and will accept any alliance or risk to achieve that end.

In the story of The Culling Game Part 1, Megumi plays a critical role as a key player on the side of the jujutsu sorcerers. He and Yuji enter the Tokyo No. 1 Colony with the aim of recruiting the third-year student Kinji Hakari to their cause. Megumi faces several dangerous opponents, most notably Reggie Star, whom he defeats through careful strategy and the use of his incomplete Domain Expansion. His progress is complicated by the revelation that Tsumiki has been possessed by another ancient sorcerer, Yorozu, and he is emotionally shattered by the ordeal. This despair is later exploited by Ryomen Sukuna, who eventually forces Megumi into becoming his new vessel, a pivotal turning point that sets the stage for the final arc.

Key relationships define Megumi's character. He shares a strong, respectful friendship with Yuji Itadori. Their bond is built on mutual trust and shared combat experience, and Yuji's unwavering optimism often contrasts with Megumi's pessimism. Nobara Kugisaki is his other classmate, and while he is often annoyed by her bluntness, he respects her strength and dedication. Satoru Gojo is his guardian and mentor, seeing enormous potential in Megumi—even claiming he could surpass Gojo himself. Gojo's protection gave Megumi the freedom to grow outside the constraints of the Zenin clan. Sukuna has shown an unusual interest in Megumi from their first encounter, recognizing the Ten Shadows Technique as a threat and later as a perfect vessel. This interest culminates in Sukuna's possession of Megumi during the Culling Game, which becomes the central tragedy of the arc.

Megumi undergoes significant development. He begins the series as a capable but cautious sorcerer who often underestimates himself. Through battles and losses, he gains confidence in his abilities, learning to combine his shikigami creatively and deploying his Domain Expansion for the first time. However, the events of the Shibuya Incident and the Culling Game push him to his emotional and psychological limits. His sister's fate and Sukuna's takeover strip him of his agency, turning his arc into a tragic loss of control. Even in this state, Yuji's determination to save him hints at a possible future redemption.

Megumi's primary ability is the inherited Ten Shadows Technique, which allows him to summon up to ten different shikigami from his shadow. The initial shikigami include the Divine Dogs (black and white tracking wolves), Nue (a winged bird that can electrify its enemies), the Toad (a large amphibian with a prehensile tongue), the Great Serpent (a giant snake, later destroyed), Max Elephant (a massive elephant that releases powerful water blasts), Rabbit Escape (a swarm of decoy rabbits), Round Deer (a healing deer that uses reverse cursed technique), and Piercing Ox (a charging bull whose power increases with distance). The most dangerous is Mahoraga, the Divine General, an untamed shikigami that adapts to any attack; calling it is a last-resort suicide tactic because it will attack everything in sight. Megumi can also create hybrid shikigami by combining shadows, such as a winged toad.

Beyond summoning, he can store objects and even himself within shadows for ambushes or evasion. His combat style is tactical and analytical; he studies opponents, sets favorable conditions, and uses his shikigami in creative combinations rather than brute force. He is also proficient in hand-to-hand combat and uses cursed tools. His Domain Expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden, floods an area with dense shadow, allowing him to summon multiple shikigami freely and manipulate the shadow terrain. It is incomplete at this stage, lacking a guaranteed-hit effect, but it provides a massive boost to his technique's power and versatility. Megumi also has high reserves of cursed energy, enabling him to summon strong shikigami repeatedly despite the physical toll.
