Description
Ofurain is a swordsman from the parallel world of Chubukai and one of the principal companions in the story. He is a broad, large-faced man with a braided beard that merges into his sideburns, and he speaks with a formal, old-fashioned samurai manner, referring to himself as sessha. He is the practitioner and self-proclaimed master of a sword style he developed himself, known as the Wild Buffalo Ofurain school. A running gag in the series is that his fully bearded, middle-aged appearance has not changed at all since his early childhood, so his true age remains a mystery.

From a young age Ofurain wished for the peace of Chubukai and dedicated himself to the way of the sword. When the villainous Enjoda and his forces rose to power and brought suffering to the land, Ofurain was overwhelmed and endured hardship. After learning of the legendary savior who was destined to come, he spent a long time waiting patiently for that arrival. He is the first person the protagonist Wataru meets after being transported to Chubukai, and he is the one who tells Wataru that he is the summoned savior. From that point he becomes a loyal guardian and traveling companion on the journey to overthrow Enjoda, serving as an older, protective presence for the young heroes.

His personality is earnest, sincere, and somewhat guileless, with a gentle, slightly absent-minded nature. His deepest wish is the peace and happiness of Chubukai, and he is unshakably devoted to the saviors he has chosen to protect. He is also completely unfamiliar with the internet and modern digital culture, which creates a recurring comic contrast with the tech-savvy young protagonists who take such things for granted. Because he is honest and straightforward, he is easily deceived, and at one point the enemy spreads doctored video clips that falsely make him appear to be a traitor, though his integrity is ultimately proven.

A major revelation in the story is that Ofurain is not an ordinary resident of Chubukai. The people of that world are in fact beings created from blocks, and Ofurain and the high-ranking Enjoda officer Gora-in were originally a single capable block-built human created to serve the divine council known as the God 7. When that person began to envy the power of the gods, the forces of Enjoda caused him to be split into two beings: Ofurain, who retained the conscience, and Gora-in, who embodied the evil heart. Gora-in bears a face almost identical to Ofurain's, and the conflict between the two becomes deeply personal, since Ofurain is effectively fighting the darker half of his own original self.

In battle, Ofurain pilots the wind-themed Mashin called Fuujinmaru, which fights by summoning powerful gales from two blades mounted on its shoulders and uses a finishing move known as the Rekkuuken, or fierce wind sword. Out of his determination to support and protect the two saviors, Wataru and Kakeru, he gains an upgraded form, Fuujinmaru Kai, which adds new techniques built around spinning blade strikes and a massive tornado alongside a more powerful version of the Rekkuuken. He also undertakes physical training under the guidance of one of Enjoda's minions, a muscle-themed fitness instructor, showing his willingness to push himself past his limits in order to stand alongside the saviors.

Near the climax of the story, Ofurain faces the overwhelming power of Enjoda alone and is erased in battle. His parting words to Wataru and Kakeru give them the resolve to rise again and press on to victory. After the final conflict, the power of Maro restores Ofurain to his original form, and he is revived to live in a peaceful Chubukai alongside the companions he fought to protect.
