Description
Onrain is a character in the anime Mashin Sōzōden Wataru. He is an executive-level operative of the Yakara, the villainous organization led by Enjoda, and he is described as one of the most powerful members on the opposing side. He makes his true appearance late in the story, first showing himself around the twelfth episode, although his influence on events begins much earlier: he is the one who seizes Kakeru Amabe when the human children first arrive in the parallel world of Chubukai. Onrain is also notable for his appearance, as his face strongly resembles that of Ofurain, the swordsman who awaits the savior Wataru. This resemblance is treated as a mystery within the story, and no ordinary explanation is given for it.

In terms of background, the series later reveals that Onrain and Ofurain were originally a single block human named Netsura-in, a capable being created from blocks to serve the gods of Chubukai. Because Netsura-in came to envy the power of the gods, he became a target of Enjoda, who split him into two beings. Ofurain embodies the conscience and good heart of the original person, while Onrain embodies the evil heart. Onrain is therefore not entirely a separate individual but rather the dark half of a single original being, with his counterpart being Ofurain himself.

In personality, Onrain is portrayed as enigmatic, cold, and ruthless. He shows little concern for the lives of his own allies, and during the climactic confrontation at Enjoda's stronghold, the characters Shou and Maiger turn against him precisely because he treats his followers as disposable. His cruelty is demonstrated when he attacks the heroes without hesitation and severs Shou's left arm during battle. That injury reveals that Shou's body is made of blocks, exposing the truth that the people of Chubukai are block humans. Onrain's motivations are tied to his nature as the evil half of Netsura-in and to his service to Enjoda. He acts in support of Enjoda's plan to amplify the dark emotions of people and set the world ablaze, working toward Enjoda's larger ambition of destroying the existing universe and becoming the creator of a new burning one.

In the story, Onrain functions as a major antagonist in the latter half of the series. He is the person who captured Kakeru in the first episode, and he reappears as a high-ranking cadre as the heroes close in on Enjoda's headquarters. He pilots the Mashin Raijinmaru, a machine whose form is paired with Ofurain's Fūjinmaru. Raijinmaru draws increased power from the heat of a sauna stove inside its cockpit, and its notable techniques include a powerful heat wave attack called Netsuha Orei, a thunder blade called Raimeiken, and a thunder burst attack called Raijinpa. In the final battle, Onrain is cornered by the combined assault of the heroes' Mashin units, but before he can be defeated, the consciousness of Enjoda, which had been hiding within his body, emerges and swallows him together with Raijinmaru, transforming the machine into the ultimate Mashin Enjōmaru. Onrain is thus consumed by his own master and becomes part of Enjoda's power for the remainder of the final confrontation.

His key relationships are shaped by his position as Enjoda's instrument. He stands in direct opposition to Ofurain, who shares his face and represents the good side of their original self. He is connected to Kakeru as the person who kidnapped him at the start of the journey, and to Shou and Maiger as subordinates whom he regards as expendable. Onrain undergoes little personal change over the course of the series; he remains a largely static and threatening presence whose significance comes from his origin as the evil half of Netsura-in, his resemblance to Ofurain, and his eventual absorption into Enjoda.
