Description
Kasumi Toyama is a first-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' Academy who serves as the guitarist and vocalist for the band Poppin'Party. Her defining characteristic is an active and optimistic personality, always on the lookout for what she calls a sparkling, heart-pounding feeling. This search began during her childhood when, while stargazing one night, she heard a sparkling "Star Beat". This experience led her to spend her life seeking out things that are "Kirakira Dokidoki," a phrase she uses to describe moments of excitement and wonder. The catalyst for forming a band came when she discovered a red, star-shaped guitar in a shop, which she felt was the key to finding the feeling she had been chasing. Convinced that forming a band is her destiny, she sets out to recruit members. As the founder and leader, she is highly intuitive, constantly finding inspiration for songs in the sparkling moments around her.

In terms of personality, Kasumi is cheerful and brimming with energy, making her a naturally positive influence on those around her. She is known for being playful and sociable, finding it easy to make friends regardless of their disposition. However, her impulsive nature means she often acts on her ideas without hesitation, which can sometimes drag her friends into unexpected situations. Despite her forceful enthusiasm, she possesses a kind and thoughtful heart that genuinely cares for her friends. She has a tendency to use abstract, onomatopoeic words to express her feelings, a way of speaking that her bandmate Arisa has dubbed "Kasumi-language". Kasumi is also deeply afraid of horror movies and ghosts, and she is known to dislike flying. Her distinctive hairstyle, which many compare to cat ears, is intended by Kasumi to represent a star shape. She is not good at swimming and struggles with tasks that she does not consider "sparkling," such as studying or paperwork.

Kasumi's primary motivation is to chase the "Kirakira Dokidoki" feeling she experienced as a child, and she believes that music and her band are the way to capture and share it. Her role in the story is that of the driving force behind Poppin'Party, whose goal is to perform on stage at the legendary live house SPACE. As the series progresses, her role expands beyond just her own band. In her third year of high school, she begins working part-time at the live house RiNG alongside her bandmate Saaya. In this capacity, she plays a supportive role behind the scenes, most notably aiding in the formation of the band MyGO!!!!! by encouraging its members and handing the microphone to its vocalist, Tomori, during their first official live performance.

Key relationships are central to her story. Her bandmates in Poppin'Party include the reserved Arisa Ichigaya, whom she often teases; the dependable drummer Saaya Yamabuki; the gentle bassist Rimi Ushigome; and the skilled guitarist Tae Hanazono. She also has a close relationship with her younger sister, Asuka, who is more level-headed than Kasumi, making it sometimes difficult to tell who is the elder sibling. Kasumi is childhood friends with Hagumi Kitazawa from the band Hello, Happy World!. Kasumi is also known for her ability to connect with nearly anyone, sharing a unique mental wavelength even with the most eccentric characters.

Throughout the narrative, Kasumi undergoes notable development as a musician and a person. While she is naturally talented at improvisation and action, she initially lacks technical skill and cannot read sheet music. Her journey is not without struggle; after being bluntly told by a venue owner that she was the worst performer during an audition, she fell into a slump and temporarily lost her voice from the pressure. With the support of her bandmates, she overcame this crisis, reaffirmed her passion, and eventually succeeded in her goal of playing at the live house SPACE. This experience highlights her growth from a purely impulsive beginner into a more resilient and determined musician. Her notable abilities include a strong sense of smell that can detect when fresh bread is available at Saaya's family bakery and a powerful intuition for songwriting.
