Description
Claudia is a character from the anime 365 Days to the Wedding who serves as the princess of the country of Lichtburg, a nation that has become a point of interest for travel agencies. Her role in the story emerges when she travels to Japan, secretly wishing to tour Tokyo like an ordinary tourist rather than a royal figure. To facilitate this, she is guided by Takuya, one of the protagonists, who is able to communicate with her in English as she does not speak Japanese well.
Claudia's outward identity is that of a married princess, but this is a facade; her marriage is a political arrangement necessary to maintain her family’s royal standing. This situation is a source of deep internal conflict, as her true romantic attachment is to a woman, making her part of a same-sex relationship that she must keep hidden. Because of her genuine feelings for her lover, Claudia has a specific reason for requesting a male guide for her travels: she intends to prevent any possibility of her female lover becoming jealous or suspicious of her activities.
Within the narrative, Claudia acts as a character who observes and is inspired by the central couple. Witnessing the relationship between Takuya and Rika, who are navigating their own contractual arrangement that slowly develops into genuine affection, encourages her to re-evaluate her own life. Her character development is significant, culminating in her decision to leave the royal family and relinquish her status as princess. This choice allows her to pursue a future with the woman she truly loves, moving from a life of duty-bound pretence to one of personal authenticity. In a pivotal moment that reflects her desire to shed her royal identity, she distinguishes between "Princess Claudia's people" and her current self, stating that she is now "just an ordinary Claudia". A notable ability is her fluency in English, which she uses as her primary means of communication during her stay in Japan, highlighting her status as a foreigner in the setting.
