OVA
Description
Akito Kurusu is a sixteen-year-old high school student and the main protagonist of the story. He stands 172 centimeters tall and has brown, spiky hair and brown eyes. As a dedicated member of the school's baseball club, he is described as popular, honest, and hot-blooded, with many considering him the most likely candidate to become the next team captain. He lives next door to his childhood friend, Aoi Kanzaki, with whom he shares a close bond; she often wakes him for school and they spend much of their time together.

Akito is characterized by a protective and proactive nature, having made a personal vow to safeguard Aoi at any cost. However, he also possesses traits of being romantically indecisive, immature, and at times, oblivious to the feelings of those around him. When a conspiracy emerges involving a physical education teacher named Shoda, who begins to coerce and violate Aoi, Akito's proclaimed bravery is put to a severe test. Despite his strong words and honest personality, he becomes largely ineffectual, often witnessing Aoi's abuse but finding himself unable or unwilling to take decisive action. His attempts to intervene physically, such as punching the much stronger Shoda, end in failure. He frequently responds to these situations by sulking, expressing anger at himself, and retreating rather than seeking help from authorities or effectively rescuing Aoi. This inaction leads to a growing sense of powerlessness as the story progresses.

Akito's primary motivation is his long-standing love for Aoi and his desire to protect her from the secret organization that has targeted her as an item for an auction. He is selected as one of several contestants meant to train Aoi, though his intention is to resist this plan and save her instead. His role in the narrative is that of the wronged childhood friend whose romantic aspirations are threatened by an external, corrupting force. His most significant relationship is with Aoi Kanzaki, which begins as a mutual, though understated, romantic connection. This relationship deteriorates as Aoi becomes increasingly entangled with Shoda, eventually leading to the end of their bond. He also has a relationship with his older brother, Fuyuki Kurusu. Fuyuki is portrayed as kind, reliable, and supportive of Akito's relationship with Aoi, often offering him romantic advice. Fuyuki is also selected by the secret organization but refuses to participate.

Throughout the story, Akito shows little to no character development, remaining largely static and ineffectual from beginning to end. His inability to adapt or grow stronger in response to the crisis is a central point of criticism for the character. In terms of abilities, Akito has no special powers or exceptional skills. He is a physically fit teenager due to his participation in the baseball club, but he is not portrayed as a capable fighter, as he is easily overpowered by the adult teacher, Shoda.
