Description
Kinoshita is a character who appears in the twelfth episode of the anime. The full name of the character is Mayu Kinoshita. Kinoshita is one of a group of debuggers working for a company also named Kinoshita, Inc., operating within the game-like world that serves as the story's setting. Originally, this character appeared in the form of a lizardman, but a bug occurred after purchasing and equipping a Fluffy Dragon skin from a merchant, which altered the appearance to the one seen in the episode.

When first encountered, Kinoshita is trapped on the thousandth floor of a massive dungeon called The Diamond, located beneath the town of Sai. This predicament is the result of a loading error that has persisted for what feels to the character like an eternity. The bug has reduced the character’s entire being to a floating placeholder node, stripped of a proper physical form. During this long period of isolation, Kinoshita’s only companions have been the books found in the dungeon’s library, many of which are filled with errors in their typing and formatting.

Kinoshita’s personality is defined by the profound loneliness of this experience. After spending years, or even longer, completely alone and trapped in a glitched state, the character is overjoyed at the opportunity to speak with someone new. This moment occurs when the protagonist, Haga, is transported deep into The Diamond by another character named Alba. Kinoshita is described as being thrilled to finally have a new person to talk to after such a long period of isolation. This encounter makes Kinoshita an unexpected but welcome presence in the story’s final arc.

The character’s visual design and circumstances are noted as an interesting addition to the series. The primary role Kinoshita plays is tied directly to the glitched nature of the world, serving as an example of the bizarre and debilitating bugs that can afflict its inhabitants. The key abilities or lack thereof are defined by this bugged state, as the character is unable to move or act normally, existing as a static but sentient node. Kinoshita’s development is limited due to appearing near the end of the season, with the character’s primary function being to provide information, companionship, or a sense of mystery to Haga in the depths of the dungeon.
