Description
Jyushimatsu Matsuno is the fifth son among the Matsuno sextuplets. He stands out from his brothers immediately due to his boundless, manic energy and his permanently wide, open-mouthed smile that often displays his tongue. His physical appearance includes a single cowlick on the top of his head and unfocused eyes that contribute to his air of cheerful insanity. His typical outfit consists of a bright yellow hoodie with sleeves long enough to cover his hands, blue shorts, white socks, and yellow slippers, which he often wears even when leaving the house. A baseball uniform serves as his civilian clothes for special outings, reflecting one of his deepest passions.

In stark contrast to his reserved and gentle portrayal in the original Osomatsu-kun manga, the adult Jyushimatsu of Osomatsu-san is a creature of pure, unfiltered exuberance. His personality is a whirlwind of nonsensical catchphrases like "Muscle muscle! Hustle hustle!" and inexplicable actions, such as swimming vigorously in a river or suddenly becoming a professional wrestler. This four-dimensional behavior, combined with his near-constant state of excitement, leads his brothers to label him an enigma. While they sometimes theorize that such relentless happiness must hide a deep inner darkness, it is more often accepted that he is simply "Jyushimatsu," a being who operates entirely on his own unique and bizarre logic. Despite his apparent lack of common sense, official materials describe him as surprisingly quick-witted and a good-natured boy who cares for his brothers. He often plays the role of an unexpected mediator during their frequent squabbles, speaking up to stop a fight when it goes too far.

Within the story of the Osomatsu-san franchise and specifically in the film The Soul's Takoyaki Party and the Legendary Sleepover, Jyushimatsu serves as an unpredictable agent of chaos and a surprising source of sincerity. He is the brother most likely to suggest an absurd activity, such as making takoyaki, which can inadvertently set the plot in motion. His motivations are simple and primal seeking fun, avoiding boredom, and pursuing the things he loves with single-minded devotion. This is exemplified by his love for baseball, which manifests not as playing in games but as swinging a bat thousands of times with inhuman stamina. Another powerful motivation is his aversion to the cold; when temperatures drop, his cheerful demeanor vanishes, replaced by a frightening and violent personality shift.

His key relationships are defined by a childlike innocence. He gets along particularly well with his younger brother, Todomatsu, often spending time with him playing video games. He also shares a unique bond with Ichimatsu, the fourth brother marked by his misanthropic and gloomy nature. Jyushimatsu is one of the few people who can reach Ichimatsu, often dragging him into activities or using a soothing gesture like tickling his chin to calm him down, as if Ichimatsu were a cat. Among the sextuplets, Jyushimatsu is noted as the one who had the most proper romantic relationship, an experience that gave him a surprisingly mature and objective perspective on love compared to his brothers.

While Jyushimatsu does not undergo dramatic personality shifts across the series, his past and the source of his current persona are explored. The 2019 movie and other flashbacks reveal that he was not always this way; his current hyperactive state is a persona he adopted and perfected during his high school years, a deliberate choice to break away from the indistinguishable identity of being one of six identical brothers. A notable breakthrough in understanding his character occurs in episode 17 of the second season, when his brothers desperately try to pinpoint the traumatic event that made him so strange. Their investigation leads them to the horrifying conclusion that he has simply been this way since he was a baby. This discovery so disturbs the other Matsunos that they vow to never speak of it again, solidifying Jyushimatsu's status as an inexplicable force of nature.

Jyushimatsu possesses a suite of notable abilities that border on the superhuman. His stamina is seemingly limitless, demonstrated by swinging a baseball bat with his brother Ichimatsu tied to it over a thousand times without tiring. His speed is exceptional, and his strength is considerable enough to lift and throw a grown man with ease. He also exhibits reality-warping comedic abilities, such as the "manji hardening," a wrestling-inspired technique where he stiffens his body into a cross shape, or spontaneously creating clones of himself. For reasons never explained, he is capable of surviving injuries that would be fatal to a normal person and has a high tolerance for pain, reinforcing the idea that he operates on a different set of physical rules from everyone else.
