Description
Honoka Sawa is a first-year high school student who attends the same school as the protagonist, Goro. Her grades and athletic abilities are average, and while her outwardly cute appearance has earned her some admirers at school, she generally does not stand out much among her peers. This unassuming exterior, however, conceals a more complex and darker interior. She was raised in a difficult family environment, and a significant tragedy shaped her life: after losing a younger brother due to neglect, she ultimately killed her own parents. This background has given her a two-faced nature, as she maintains an innocent facade for those who are not involved in the god candidate competition while hiding a much more ruthless personality in reality.
Honoka is a participant in the selection process to become a god, holding the rank of A. Her primary motivation within the story is tied to this brutal contest, which forces participants into conflict with one another. She is initially hostile toward Goro, becoming the first candidate to attack him when he is still unaware of the nature of their situation. She fights with lethal intent, using her full power in an attempt to kill him, which demonstrates her immediate willingness to eliminate her competition. Despite being killed in this initial confrontation when Goro accidentally drops a satellite on her, she is later resurrected through his abilities. Following her revival, she enters into a nominal alliance with Goro, though her intentions remain treacherous, as she continues to look for any opportunity to kill him.
Honoka possesses a unique and gruesome ability known as Carnival. This power allows her to manipulate dead flesh, transforming it into a weaponized form referred to as meat metal. She has precise control over this material, able to change its strength and shape at will. Her weapon of choice is a large hatchet that she conjures using dead meat as a medium. She can control everything from surrounding corpses to packaged, processed meat, and she is rarely seen without packaged meat that she carries with her for this purpose. A particularly dangerous aspect of her ability is that she can also use her own flesh as fuel, which allows her to awaken her power in dire situations, such as when she was engulfed in flames and near death. A side effect of using her own body is that it causes her to revert physically to a childlike state. Additionally, she has demonstrated a possible healing ability, having been able to mend injuries inflicted on another character, though whether this is a direct function of her own power is not entirely clear.
