Description
Kōki Ama is a student council president at the high school attended by the protagonist Goro Ono. He comes from a wealthy and influential family, yet he does not let his privileged background define his character. During his childhood, he experienced severe bullying from classmates, an experience that profoundly shaped his outlook and behavior. To cope with the trauma, he dyed his hair, disciplined his body, and resolved to stand up to those who use their strength to oppress others. Over time, this transformation allowed him to develop a deep understanding of the feelings of delinquents and outsiders. Despite his tough appearance, he is a genuinely kind-hearted, passionate, and compassionate individual who is driven by a strong sense of justice.
His motivation stems from a desire to protect those who cannot protect themselves and to ensure that no one suffers the way he did. This inner drive aligns with his role in the story as one of the god candidates in the deadly competition known as KamiErabi. He initially becomes involved with the battle when Tatsuya Amano, a classmate who admired him, uses his ability to manipulate and brainwash other students. After Tatsuya is defeated and loses his life, Kōki obtains Tatsuya’s smartphone, thereby becoming a new candidate for God. He also inherits a power known as GARYU GARIN, though the specific nature of his ability differs from Tatsuya’s. His ability is a variant of this power that manifests as a rule-enforcing skill, compelling opponents into a fair, physical fistfight duel. This ability reflects his unwavering belief in direct, honorable confrontation.
Kōki’s key relationships include his bond with Goro, who becomes his most trusted ally throughout the conflict. Their partnership is built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to justice. He also interacts with other candidates such as Chika Nojima, Honoka Sawa, and the idol Iyo Futana, and he plays a role in the fight against the siblings Ryo and Kyo Sematei. His leadership qualities and moral clarity make him a stabilizing presence among the candidates. Over the course of the story, Kōki’s development is marked by his growth from a lone survivor of bullying into a principled fighter who is willing to risk everything for the greater good. His notable abilities include his inherited power that ensures duels are decided through brute strength and skill, as well as his physical prowess, which he developed through rigorous training. In the second season, set twelve years after the original events, Kōki reappears as a temporary teacher at the school attended by the new protagonists, his memories of the past battle slowly returning as the conflict reignites.
