Description
Hiori Kazano is a fifteen-year-old first-year high school student from Tokyo who serves as one of the idols at 283 Production, assigned to the unit Illumination STARS. She stands 154 centimeters tall and has a birthday on March 4th, making her a Pisces with blood type A. Her hobbies include listening to music, seeking out beautiful scenery, and fortune telling, which she uses as a form of moral support and to cope with uncertainty. She is also skilled at cooking and schedule management, practical abilities she has developed from living independently.

Hiori presents a stoic and serious exterior, often perceived as aloof or harsh because she has a habit of speaking her mind directly and saying exactly what she thinks. This communication style frequently leads to misunderstandings, a trait she dislikes about herself and is not proud of. Beneath this cool and clear-headed surface, however, she is extremely pure-hearted and sensitive. When she unintentionally hurts someone's feelings, she can fall into a depression, revealing a vulnerability that contrasts with her strong-willed demeanor. Her reserved and self-critical nature developed after family matters during her youth transformed her from a totally normal girl into someone who is guarded and harsh on both herself and others.

Her motivation to become an idol sparked in middle school after she witnessed an idol performance at a school festival. Captivated by the love and connection between the idol and the fans, she began to yearn for that same bond. She believed that if she could become a sparkling, shining idol, she might be able to love herself as well as receive love from others. Despite her determination to work hard and become her ideal self, she initially harbored deep doubts about her place within Illumination STARS, constantly comparing herself unfavorably to her unit members. She worried that she lacked Mano Sakuragi's natural singing talent and Meguru Hachimiya's athletic stamina and dancing ability, fearing that she was holding the group back and struggling to trust others.

Key relationships within the unit are central to her development. She shares with Mano the difficulty of connecting well with people, leading to mutual understanding, while Meguru provides her with friendship and emotional bonds. A pivotal moment occurred when she encountered Mano on a day off, and they shared their mutual self-doubts, resolving to communicate better. Shortly after this conversation, Hiori fell ill, which reignited her anxieties about falling behind her peers. Upon returning, she misinterpreted Mano and Meguru's concerned behavior as a sign that the unit was dissolving. Instead, they surprised her with a party to celebrate her recovery, which helped Hiori realize that she had gained true friends she could rely on. This event marked the beginning of her emotional opening and a transition from solitary self-reliance to accepting the value of bonds and teamwork. Hiori's journey therefore reflects a gradual overcoming of her isolationist tendencies and self-comparisons through the support of her unit members, as she moves toward her ideal of becoming an idol who shines brighter than anyone else.
