Description
Men Tao is a central character in the Shaman King Flowers manga, appearing previously as an infant in the original Shaman King series. He is the son of Tao Ren, a member of the former Five Elemental Warriors, and Jeanne, the former Iron Maiden. As the main heir to the powerful Tao Family, his upbringing has been steeped in the family's strict traditions and帝王学, or royal studies.

Physically, Men Tao is a striking blend of his parents. He inherits the distinctive spiked tongari hairstyle and overall facial resemblance of his father, Ren, but with his mother’s silver-white hair and red eyes. As a young primary school student, he wears a golden blazer similar to his father’s old uniform, though he accessorizes it with a ribbon-bow in place of a tie.

In terms of personality, Men is a complex mix of his parents' traits. He can be every bit as impulsive, arrogant, and brash as his father, especially in battle, and looks down on those he considers beneath him as part of his role as heir. However, his superior attitude and serene manner of speaking, particularly when not agitated, are reminiscent of his mother. Despite a noticeable bloodlust when fighting, he adheres to an iron-clad rule taught to him by his parents: never to kill anyone. Another character notes that despite being extremely stubborn and obstinate, he has a tender heart at his core. Before the tragic death of his mother, Men was described as being more cheerful and prone to causing mischief.

His primary motivation in Shaman King Flowers stems from his mother's assassination. Driven by grief and rage, he initially seeks revenge against her killers. This desire is tempered by his father, Ren, who reminds him of their promise not to kill and warns against perpetuating a cycle of hatred. Ultimately, Men’s goal shifts toward winning the Flower of Maize, a tournament that he believes will grant him the power to save and revive his mother.

In the story, Men's role is as a key member of the new Team Hao. He is sent by his father to Funbari Hill to meet his new teammates. Upon arriving, he immediately comes into conflict with the protagonist, Asakura Hana, refusing to accept him as the team leader without a fight. This confrontation is a major early event, during which Men easily overpowers Hana’s allies and pushes Hana to unleash a dangerous power that briefly kills him. His actions are a driving force for the initial plot.

His key relationships are defined by his family legacy. He has a profound, if strained, bond with his father, Ren, who tries to guide his son away from the path of hatred even as he shares his pain. The memory of his mother, Jeanne, is the most powerful motivating factor in his life, and his desire to save her defines his actions. He is also a direct rival and eventual teammate of Asakura Hana, the son of Yoh and Anna Asakura, continuing the competitive legacy of their fathers.

Throughout the story, Men undergoes significant development, transitioning from a cheerful child to a grief-stricken and vengeful young shaman. His encounter with Hana and the subsequent events force him to confront his rage and begin to channel it toward a constructive goal, rather than pure revenge, while still holding onto the core value of not killing.

As a shaman, Men possesses exceptional talent, described as a thoroughbred due to his powerful lineage. He was already capable of performing an Over Soul by the age of seven. He has inherited the guardian ghosts of both his parents: his father's loyal warrior, Bason, and his mother's angelic spirit, Shamash. For his Over Soul with Bason, he uses a legendary guandao weapon. For his Over Soul with Shamash, he wields a large spike, which was originally a component of his mother's infamous Iron Maiden. His furyoku level is noted to be exceptionally high.
