TV-Series
Description
Larry is a character who appears in the Paldea region as both a Gym Leader and a member of the Elite Four, a rare dual role that makes him one of the most versatile and challenging trainers in the series. He is a tall, middle-aged man with a lean build, black hair streaked with gray, and rectangular eyes with dark pupils. His tired expression and prominent eyebags reflect his perpetually overworked demeanor. He is almost always seen wearing a black business suit, a gray dress shirt, and a sky-blue tie patterned with clouds, and he carries a worn briefcase. As a Gym Leader, he operates out of the Treasure Eatery in Medali, where he conducts his official battles alongside a meal theme.

Larry’s background is tied to his employment with the Paldea Pokémon League under the direction of Geeta, who assigned him the duties of both a Gym Leader and an Elite Four member. On top of these responsibilities, he also works as a regular businessman, which leaves him with little time for rest. His personality is defined by a serious, brooding, and emotionally detached nature. He speaks in a flat, expressionless tone and rarely shows enthusiasm. He views Pokémon battling not as a passion but as an extension of his workload. His guiding belief is that simplicity is strongest, and he prefers ordinary, uncomplicated approaches to both life and battle. He connects personally with Normal-type Pokémon because he sees them as ordinary like himself, and he uses them in his Gym Leader battles. When serving as an Elite Four member, he shifts to Flying-type Pokémon.

His motivations are driven by a desire to fulfill his professional obligations with minimal fuss. He does not seek fame or glory and seems to derive his only genuine enjoyment from eating out, often using meals as a backdrop for his Gym challenge. In the story, Larry appears during the second season of the series as part of Dot’s Tera Training arc. Dot challenges him for her Implementation Test, a crucial step in her development as a trainer. The battle takes place at the Treasure Eatery, where Larry deploys his Dudunsparce and Staraptor. He uses strategic moves such as Glare to paralyze opponents and demonstrates calm, efficient tactics. Despite Dot’s initial struggles, Larry acknowledges her growth and allows her to pass the test because she meets all the required conditions: using two Pokémon, staying in sync with her partner, and using Terastalization at the right moment. After the match, he reluctantly covers the cost of a large meal for Dot, Roy, and Liko, a moment that highlights his financially burdened but dutiful nature.

Larry has also been shown facing opponents outside of official challenges. He defeats Coral of the Explorers and her Glalie with relative ease, proving his strength and competence as a trainer. His notable abilities include mastery of both Normal and Flying types, as well as the use of Terastalization to enhance his Staraptor during battle. His Pokémon team includes a Staraptor that appears in most of his battles, a Dudunsparce, and as an Elite Four member, a Flamigo. His battle style is methodical and unemotional, focusing on wearing down opponents with reliable moves and type coverage.

In terms of relationships, Larry has limited direct interaction with the main cast, but he maintains a professional rapport with Geeta, his superior. He briefly interacts with Dot, where he offers no encouragement or criticism beyond what is required, maintaining his detached demeanor. He has no known personal connections outside of work, and his life revolves entirely around his multiple jobs and his rare moments of dining out. His development within the series is subtle; he remains largely static as a character, serving as a reliable benchmark of strength and a representation of the overworked salaryman archetype. His presence provides a grounded, relatable contrast to the more energetic and aspirational characters in the series.
