TV-Series
Description
Quaxly is a Water-type Pokémon who appears as the partner of Dot, a member of the Rising Volt Tacklers, in the anime Pokémon Horizons: The Series. Before officially becoming a Pokémon Trainer, Dot relies on Quaxly as a practical helper, sending it to run messages and deliver packages across the airship so that she can remain in her cabin while focusing on her activities as the online streamer Nidothing. Quaxly therefore serves as Dot's connection to the outside world and is closely tied to her daily routine and her work.
In terms of background, Quaxly begins as a companion that lives alongside Dot and the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers rather than as a formally caught Pokémon. The moment of official partnership comes when Friede gives Dot a Poké Ball, and despite Dot's clumsy throw, Quaxly willingly jumps into it, effectively choosing to be captured. Dot openly admits that she had not been interested in becoming a Trainer, but that she decided to become Quaxly's partner. This act marks Quaxly's transition from a casual companion into an official partner in training and battle.
Personality-wise, Quaxly is earnest and tidy, with a strong preference for keeping itself clean and well groomed. Its feathers secrete a glossy gel that naturally repels water and grime, and it dislikes getting dirty, particularly around its head, which features a distinctive coif styled like a slicked-back cap. Quaxly is also prone to overthinking things, which gives it a careful, detail-oriented approach to situations. Its strong legs allow it to swim easily even in fast-flowing rivers, a natural advantage as a Water-type Pokémon.
Quaxly's motivation is primarily expressed through its loyalty and willingness to support Dot. It shows a protective instinct, stepping in to defend her in dangerous situations, and it demonstrates an eagerness to take on the responsibilities of a partner once given the chance. Its role in the story grows from being a background helper into a genuine battler as Dot begins taking on Trainer duties and participating in the group's adventures.
Within the main cast, Quaxly's most important relationship is with Dot, and the two share a strong bond built on trust and daily cooperation. Quaxly also interacts with Liko, Roy, and their partners, and its duties often place it alongside other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers. During confrontations with antagonists such as the Explorer Spinel, Quaxly works together with Liko's Sprigatito and Roy's Fuecoco to protect the group and recover a stolen pendant, showing its ability to function as part of a team.
Notable abilities include moves such as Pounding and Water Gun, which Quaxly uses both defensively and offensively. In battle, it shows a talent for observing and imitating the movements of other Pokémon, a trait that Dot helps it channel into attacking strategies by incorporating those imitated movements into its own techniques. This approach proves effective and becomes a key part of its development as a fighter. Later, Quaxly grows significantly as a battler, Terastallizing for the first time during a testing battle and eventually evolving into Quaxwell, marking its growth from a cautious helper into a more confident and capable partner.
