Description
Liko's Nyahoja, which later evolves into Nyarote and then Masquernya, is her first partner Pokémon and the one she received upon enrolling at Indigo Academy. As a Nyahoja, it was initially disobedient and distant, scratching Liko when she tried to touch it and frequently running off to be alone. Its early personality was solitary and cautious, shaped by a past incident in which its powerful attacks accidentally hurt other Pokémon at its breeding home, leading it to withdraw from others. Despite this, Nyahoja was drawn to Liko from the beginning, and over time the two built a deep bond through shared experiences and battles. As Liko gained confidence and showed genuine care, Nyahoja grew more affectionate and trusting, becoming a constant companion often seen outside its Poké Ball.
The evolution to Nyarote occurred during a critical battle against the black Rayquaza, marking a turning point in both its power and its relationship with Liko. Nyarote became more playful and adept in combat, skillfully using a vine tipped with a flower bud to strike opponents. Its personality remained devoted to Liko but also displayed a streak of jealousy when other Pokémon, such as a Nyarote encountered later, sought Liko's attention. This stage saw Nyarote developing a sharper battle instinct and a stronger desire to protect its trainer.
The final evolution into Masquernya took place during the climactic confrontation with Gibeon's Zygarde in Laqua, when Nyarote, after seeing allies fall, pushed itself to protect Liko and the group. Masquernya emerged as a confident and powerful partner, retaining its deep affection for Liko while becoming even more protective. Its jealousy intensified, as shown by its irritated reactions when other Pokémon got too close to Liko. Despite this, Masquernya is generally affable, even toward strangers, and delights in being close to its trainer.
Motivationally, the line is driven by a desire to be with Liko and to grow stronger to face threats together. It acts out of love and loyalty rather than any external goal.
