Description
Mike Nekotani is a supporting character in the anime. She is the childhood friend of Karen Inukai and lives in the house next door to the protagonist’s residence. A high school girl with very long blonde hair and green eyes, Mike is energetic and cheerful by nature, with a personality often described as cat-like and unpredictable. She has a strong love for cats but harbors a deep and genuine fear of dogs. This fear causes her to be constantly on guard around the protagonist after he is transformed into a dog named Pochita, and it creates much of her comedic role in the story.
Her motivations are largely driven by her desire to avoid dogs while still maintaining her friendship with Karen. She is a typical student who occasionally studies with Karen. Her role in the narrative is that of a supporting foil: her fear of dogs contrasts with Karen’s doting affection for Pochita, and she often finds herself in situations where she must reluctantly interact with the canine protagonist. Over the course of the series, she begins to warm up to Pochita slightly, notably after an incident where he helps her by removing a centipede that had crawled onto her, and then calms her by licking a scrape on her knee. This moment represents a small step in overcoming her phobia.
Key relationships include her close bond with Karen Inukai, whom she has known since childhood, and her wary but gradually softening connection with Pochita. She has no special abilities and is portrayed as an ordinary high school girl whose primary traits are her feline-like demeanor and her intense fear of dogs. Her development is limited but present, as she learns to tolerate Pochita’s presence to some degree.
