Description
Pico Onedari, known simply as Pico, is the central character of the anime Pico×CoCo×Chico, the third entry in the Pico series of animated videos. He is a young boy raised in the countryside who travels to Tokyo for a visit together with his younger companion Chico. Physically, Pico has a soft and feminine appearance and is easily mistaken for a girl, a trait that shapes how other characters first perceive him. His demeanor is upbeat, cheerful, and gently affectionate, although he can be shy when meeting people for the first time.
At the start of this story, Pico and Chico are already a close couple, and the two are out together in the city when they meet a mysterious boy named CoCo. Pico initially believes CoCo is a girl, and he is immediately drawn to CoCo's spiritual outlook and delicate, graceful manner. CoCo invites the two to a secret hideout beneath the subway, where the three spend time together and grow closer. As Pico's attraction to CoCo deepens, he begins to question his feelings for Chico, and the emotional pull in two directions stirs jealousy, passion, and tension among the three.
His motivations are emotional rather than practical. Pico seeks closeness and affection, and he responds warmly to beauty and tenderness in others. His feelings for CoCo are sincere, but he also cares for Chico, and he does not want to hurt the person he is already with. The conflict between these attachments drives his actions throughout the story. When CoCo starts to believe that he is becoming a strain on Pico and Chico's relationship and decides to distance himself, Pico is forced to confront the consequences of his shifting heart and to recognize the complexity of his own emotions.
Across the larger series, Pico has a performing side and is associated with singing and a playful, charming presence. Within this particular installment, his defining qualities are his gentle disposition, his girlish appearance, and his ability to draw strong affection from the people around him. His development in the story centers on learning how to handle the feelings he carries for two people at once and on coming to terms with the effect his choices have on others.
