Description
Nodoka Hanadera is a second-year student at Sukoyaka Middle School who becomes the Pretty Cure known as Cure Grace, the Pretty Cure of Flowers. Her life was shaped by a serious illness she suffered as a child, an experience that left her with a frail constitution and a deep appreciation for the kindness she received from others while she was unwell. This past instilled in her a powerful desire to pass that same kindness forward, making her highly empathetic and attentive to the emotions of those around her. She is compassionate and soft-spoken by nature, often acting as a mediator within her group and prioritizing the well-being of others above her own. At the same time, she possesses a strong-willed and determined core; her difficult history made her resilient and gave her a firm sense of justice that does not waver. She tends to operate at her own pace, is optimistic and energetic, and is motivated to try many different things, though she is not naturally athletic due to her past illness.
As the leader of the Healin' Good Pretty Cure team, Nodoka's role is to protect both the Earth and the mystical Healing Garden from the Byogens, a group that seeks to spread disease and corruption. Her partnership with the healing animal Rabirin allows her to transform into Cure Grace. In battle, she wields the Healing Stick as her primary weapon. Her purification technique, Healing Flower, fires a beam from the Healing Stick that transforms into a pair of hands to extract and purify the corrupted spirit within a monster. She also commands a technique called Healing Oasis and, at her most powerful, can achieve a form called Super Miracle Grace to unleash the ultimate purification attack, Healing Time Liberation. Her abilities are grounded in the themes of health, life, and nature, reflecting her personal journey from illness to strength.
Nodoka's key relationships are with her teammates: Chiyu Sawaizumi, who becomes Cure Fontaine; Hinata Hiramitsu, who becomes Cure Sparkle; and Asumi Fuurin, who becomes Cure Earth. Together, they form a close-knit group that supports one another through every battle. Her bond with Rabirin is especially significant, as Rabirin is not only her partner but also a source of encouragement and guidance. In the crossover film Eiga Precure All Stars F, Nodoka joins forces with many other Pretty Cure teams from across the franchise as they work to reunite after a catastrophic event and confront a mysterious entity. In this story, she is among the Cures who band together alongside heroines like Cure Sky, Cure Prism, Cure Precious, and Cure Summer, contributing her calm and steady presence to the larger alliance.
Throughout her journey, Nodoka undergoes meaningful development. Her childhood illness gave her a firsthand understanding of pain and vulnerability, which fuels her determination to protect the health and happiness of others. She learns to overcome the physical limitations of her past and grows more confident in her abilities as a leader and a fighter. Her experiences teach her the value of trusting her team and believing in her own strength. Notably, she takes a firm stance against the villains, refusing to offer them salvation and demonstrating that her kindness does not mean she is weak or naive. Her catchphrase, I feel so alive, encapsulates the joy and gratitude she feels for being able to live fully and help others, making her personal growth from a sick child to a powerful and compassionate heroine central to her character.
