Description
Raiya Kaeruzaka is a registered Actress affiliated with Naruko-zaka Manufacturing in the Alice Gear Aegis franchise. She is sixteen years old and a second-year student at Gouwan Ikuei High School, the same school attended by Hinata Rin. Her family is a ninja clan whose traditions go back many generations, and she was raised in that world from childhood. She is not originally from the city; her family home is in the Iga Shard, a region corresponding broadly to Mie Prefecture, and she moved to the Tokyo Shard before the main story begins.

Professionally, Raiya works as a counter-spy specialist. She holds a semi-first-class full license, the complete certification rank, in Urban-style ninjutsu, a modern and city-oriented school of ninja arts. Using urban ninja techniques, she protects corporate secrets from industrial spies, and she is well regarded in that line of work, receiving many requests from companies. She treats her registered Actress duties as something of a secondary job; her deeper ambition is to spread Urban-style ninjutsu through her activities as an Actress. Her stated hobbies are searching for good food and training, and her personal goal is to invent an original ninjutsu of her own.

In personality, Raiya is honest, earnest, and hardworking, with a straightforward nature. Because so much of her effort goes into ninjutsu, she can come across as a little absent-minded, and she is not strong academically, though she is quick-witted and remains notably calm in emergencies. Within the larger story she is often treated as a comedic figure, especially after Shitara Kaneshiya began teasing her early on, but she is genuinely serious about the ninja way. Her chronic shortage of money is usually caused by impulse purchases of ninjutsu equipment, and when funds run low she takes part-time shifts at a restaurant called Kouryuen, where the staff meals keep her fed.

In the anime special Alice Gear Aegis: Doki! Actress Darake no Mermaid Grand Prix, Raiya holds a supporting role within a large ensemble cast. The special revolves around a mermaid-themed tag-team competition with a prize of ten million yen, and the proceedings are complicated by comic obstacles, including an oversized frog and a cyclone. Raiya's own design leans heavily into a frog motif, from her name, which contains the character for frog, to her techniques, and she also carries a reference to the legendary ninja Jiraiya, who was associated with frog-related abilities.

Her closest companions at Naruko-zaka are Rei and Hinata Rin. She also goes shopping with other actresses such as Serina and Fukami, and she is on good terms with Nina and several others as regular dining companions. She has a younger brother named Takaya, who is highly skilled in ninjutsu in his own right and has won tournament victories, though he remains an easily flustered adolescent boy around his older sister.

Her background is revealed gradually in the story. Because a ninja's origin must not be detectable from speech, she makes a point of speaking standard Japanese and was drilled from childhood in a special dialect meant to conceal her birthplace. Despite that, in later story events she is shown slipping into the Mie dialect in relaxed moments and even openly listing the Iga Shard as her hometown.

As a fighter, Raiya is a versatile attacker who excels at close to mid range, combining high mobility with fast attack speed and a talent for appearing suddenly from nowhere. Her raw physical strength is not a match for Hinata Rin's, but her ninja agility is considerable. She favors mechanical ninja tools, a specialty of Urban-style ninjutsu, including machine pistols that fire energy rounds, optical disc shuriken that fire actual bullets, and a large two-handed sword. In addition to gadget-based techniques, she knows traditional arts such as a method for commanding frogs, and her equipment includes fire-based techniques. Her special moves include Meikyō Shisui, a clear-minded stillness technique, and Sōjin Happa, a twin-blade explosive technique. When she is pushed to the brink in battle, her attack output and movement speed temporarily surge, reflecting a combat style built around sudden bursts of speed and pressure.
