OVA
Description
Albert Heinrich, designated Cyborg 004, is a man from East Berlin whose life was shattered by a failed attempt to escape with his fiancée, Hilda. The plan ended in tragedy when Hilda was killed and Albert was left mortally wounded. The agents of the criminal organization Black Ghost recovered his broken body and, seeing him as prime material, transformed him into a living weapon. The cybernetic conversion was so extensive that nearly all of his original body was replaced, leaving only his brain, spine, and nervous system intact.

In the OVA crossover Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman, Albert appears with short, light gray hair and pale eyes. He wears a distinctive red, double-breasted military uniform with gold buttons, a high collar, a long yellow scarf, and black boots with a holster for his Super Gun. This design is a hybrid of his appearances in the original manga and later anime adaptations.

Personality wise, Albert is characterized by a grim and cynical outlook on life, a direct consequence of the loss of his humanity and the death of his fiancée. He often behaves in a calm, aloof, and detached manner, carrying the weight of his past with a philosophical insight into the nature of humanity. Despite this hardened exterior, he is deeply warm and caring toward his fellow 00 cyborgs, treating them as a second family and acting as an elder brother figure. He often offers advice to younger members like Joe Shimamura (009), though he shares a more combative but mutually respectful love-hate friendship with Jet Link (002).

His primary motivation in the story is to combat Black Ghost and protect his surrogate family. His tragic past also serves as an anchor for his identity. When the team is attacked by the flower demon Lilith, she creates illusions of their loved ones to trap them. Albert is confronted by an illusion of Hilda, but he sees through the deception immediately because he witnessed her actual death. This act of resistance helps break the spell on his teammates, demonstrating how his grief has paradoxically become a source of strength.

As a cyborg, Albert is essentially a walking arsenal. His most notable weapons include a machine gun built into his left hand, with muzzles on each finger that can fire high-caliber bullets simultaneously. His right hand conceals a retractable electromagnetic knife capable of cutting through almost any material. His legs are hollow prosthetic limbs that function as missile launchers, which he typically fires from a kneeling position. These missiles can also disperse into smaller projectiles to track multiple targets. The musical opening of the OVA also briefly mentions an atomic bomb stored within his body as a last-resort weapon. In combat, he relies on his tactical acumen and expert marksmanship to support his team.

Throughout the OVA, Albert plays a key supporting role. He is part of a search party looking for a devil in Japan and later battles against the High-Teen Number Cyborgs, advanced models created by a rogue Black Ghost scientist. After surviving the crash of their ship, the Dolphin, Albert and his team help Akira Fudo (Devilman) and the other cyborgs in the final battle against the fused demon Azazel. While he does not undergo a major personal transformation within this specific story, his character remains defined by his stoic resilience, his role as a tactical anchor for the team, and his unyielding loyalty to his comrades.
