Description
Martin Jigmar is a supporting character in Scryed Alteration I Tao, a recap movie that compiles and partially extends the original S-CRY-ed anime. He serves as the commander of HOLY, the elite organization responsible for policing native Alter users on the Lost Ground. An American immigrant to Japan, Jigmar is one of the first known Alter users and the first to have his ability heavily refined. His background is marked by strong convictions about protecting Alter users from discrimination, and he founded HOLY as a safe haven for them, though its mission later becomes more complex and authoritarian.
Personality-wise, Jigmar is a strict and prideful man, yet he possesses a quiet kindness and a deep sense of understanding. He keeps to himself but holds a firm belief in the potential of Ryuho, a young HOLY agent whom he treats like a surrogate son, urging him to improve and pushing him to excel. He also has a connection with Kyoji Mujo, a high-ranking figure in the HOLY council, which later factors into the story’s events. Jigmar’s motivations are rooted in his desire to control Alter powers and maintain order, but he is also driven by a personal regret: he neglected his own son, Elian, and confesses to being a poor father.
In the story, Jigmar initially appears as a distant authority figure overseeing HOLY’s operations. His role deepens when he finally uses his Alter, called Alter Alias, in combat against Ryuho. This ability consists of two parts: a metal alloy that covers his upper chest and arms, and a separate form that manipulates highly compressed air to create both defensive shields and powerful shockwaves. Jigmar can also distort reality in a personal radius, allowing short-range teleportation to evade attacks. However, because his Alter is heavily refined, using it causes him to age rapidly, transforming him from a man in his early twenties to an elderly state within a single battle. He ultimately loses the fight against Ryuho, and during his final moments, he confesses his failures as a father and dies, prompting Ryuho to swear vengeance against Mujo.
Jigmar’s key relationship with Ryuho is central to his development: he sees Ryuho as a son and pushes him to grow stronger, but their confrontation becomes a turning point. His relationship with Elian is marked by absence and remorse, and his connection to Mujo reveals the darker political machinations within HOLY. Jigmar’s development is one of tragic realization—he begins as a seemingly cold commander and ends as a regretful father who acknowledges his shortcomings. His notable abilities include spatial distortion for evasion and the compressed-air-based Alter Alias, which demands a high physical toll.
