Description
Kotetsu Serizawa is a high-ranking officer in the Earth Defense Force who serves as a staff officer under the command of Heikuro Todo. A career military strategist with a pragmatic and calculating nature, Serizawa is defined by his ambition and his absolute belief that the only viable path to humanity's survival lies in the Izumo Plan, a secret project designed to evacuate a small population from Earth. When the Izumo Plan is superseded by the more daring Yamato Plan, Serizawa publicly falls in line but privately continues to advance his own agenda. He holds a deep-seated resentment toward Captain Juzo Okita, whose reputation and leadership he views as obstructive, and he considers Okita's approach to be recklessly idealistic.
Serizawa's motivations are rooted in a cold, utilitarian logic: he prioritizes the survival of a manageable number of people over what he sees as the futile gamble of the Yamato's mission.
