Description
Melda Dietz is a fighter pilot serving in the military of the Great Gamilas Empire, where she holds the rank of Lower Storm Leader in the 707th Galactic Theater Air Corps. She comes from a distinguished military family as the daughter of the supreme fleet commander, Admiral Gul Dietz, a legacy that deeply influences her character and sense of honor. Physically, she resembles a human with the notable exception of her blue skin, a feature that initially causes shock and curiosity among Earthlings who encounter her.

As a soldier, Dietz embodies the ideal Gamilon officer. She excels as a combat pilot and holds honor and protocol in the highest regard, a trait rooted in her family's long history of service. This dedication to formality is evident in her interactions, such as when she greets her father with a salute upon freeing him from captivity rather than a warm, familial embrace. Initially, her worldview is shaped by the Gamilas Empire’s propaganda, leading her to view humans and other alien races as inherently inferior and to believe that Earth was the aggressor in their war. Despite this, she maintains a professional respect for enemy officers who demonstrate skill and honor, and she is willing to follow the orders of a non-Gamilon senior officer if the situation demands it.

Dietz plays a pivotal role as a bridge between the warring Gamilas and Earth. Her journey begins when her ship, the battlecruiser EX-178, becomes trapped in a subspace void alongside the Earth battleship, the Argo. Displaying initiative and courage, she flies to the Argo under a flag of truce to propose a cooperative escape plan, subsequently staying aboard as a de facto hostage to ensure her captain's compliance. After the plan succeeds and her vessel is destroyed, she finds herself stranded on the Argo, becoming a focus of controversy and hatred among a crew that has suffered greatly from the Gamilon war of aggression.

Over time, her perspective evolves significantly. While initially confined to the brig and refusing to cooperate, she slowly responds to the trust and kindness shown by the Argo's crew, particularly Lieutenant Derek Wildstar. A key relationship in her development is her rivalry with Earth fighter pilot Jennifer Rei Harding. What begins with restrained taunts escalates to an unauthorized duel between the two aces. When Harding's fighter malfunctions and she is forced to eject, Dietz acts with honor by rescuing her former rival and returning her to the ship, an act that begins to transform their enmity into a deep and mutual bond of respect and admiration. Dietz also shares a reverent relationship with Princess Yurisha Iscandar, whom all Gamilons hold in high esteem, and she remains obedient and deferential in her presence.

After returning to Gamilas, Dietz is dismayed by the harsh political realities of her empire, witnessing the brutal crackdowns and false arrests carried out by the Imperial Guard following the apparent assassination of Leader Abelt Desslok. When her own father is arrested on false charges, she joins the resistance, participating in a daring mission to the prison planet Leptapoda. She personally rescues the admiral and stands by him as he leads a riot that overthrows the prison's security forces. Following this, her father leaves her aboard the Argo as a liaison officer, solidifying her role as a key ally to the Earth forces and a central figure in the growing rebellion against the empire's leadership.

In terms of abilities, Melda Dietz is an exceptionally skilled fighter pilot. She flies a distinctive red Czvarke fighter and proves to be the equal of Earth's best pilots. Her capabilities are such that she can provide tactical guidance to the Argo's bridge crew during combat operations and effectively defend allies, such as Princess Yurisha, from enemy attacks. Her personal journey reflects a move away from imperial indoctrination toward a more nuanced understanding of honor, equality, and reconciliation, ultimately accepting humans as equals and forming lasting friendships across the former battle lines. On a lighter note, despite her initial suspicion of alien customs, she quickly comes to develop a fondness for Earth parfaits.
