Description
Hirofumi Satake is an ordinary salaryman wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death for the murders of his fiancée, Chie Negishi, and her alleged affair partner. Despite his conviction, he consistently displays a gentle and polite demeanor, even forming respectful relationships with prison staff. He is defined as an "undead man," endowed with an extraordinary ability to survive numerous fatal incidents, accidents, and illnesses. This includes surviving his execution by hanging through improbable coincidences, an event attracting a research institution studying miraculous phenomena.
Following his survival, researchers take him in to study his condition. He suffers significant memory loss, particularly regarding the events leading to his conviction. His memories resurface gradually, triggered by conversations, objects, or new traumatic experiences. These fragmented recollections reveal a lifetime pattern of near-death encounters: surviving a shipwreck and 48 days adrift at sea, a plane hijacking and explosion resulting in a fall from 10,000 meters, multiple violent encounters with criminal organizations in Mexico and Venezuela, and a hospital fire. His past includes international work for a trading company, where he became fluent in several languages.
The central mystery involves Chie Negishi's alleged murder. Recovered memories, particularly triggered during a hospital fire, reveal she did not die. Evidence against him was fabricated by an individual known as Jack as part of a larger conspiracy. His quest to uncover the truth leads him through dangerous situations across different countries, driven by a desire to clear his name and understand the conspiracy targeting him. He reunites with Chie, only for her to be kidnapped, forcing him into a final confrontation with criminal elements to save her.
Despite repeated brushes with death and entanglement in extraordinary events, he consistently perceives himself as an ordinary individual caught in unfortunate circumstances beyond his control. Uncovering the conspiracy and proving his innocence regarding Chie's "murder" does not alter this fundamental self-perception of normalcy.
