Description
Ryoko Balta, a successful and notorious space pirate affiliated with the Daluma Guild, operates within well-known galactic circles. Genetic analysis during her Galaxy Police booking revealed her concealed heritage as the last heir of the Balta royal family, a lineage tied to a planet poised to join the Jurai Empire and Galactic Federation as a monarchy, granting her princess status. Lady Seto of Jurai facilitated this discovery. Despite her royal lineage and her grandfather's invitation to assume the throne, Ryoko declined to remain with Seina Yamada.
Initially operating undercover for the Daluma Guild, she infiltrated the Galaxy Police Academy using the deep-cover alias Erma. This identity involved genetic rewriting to pose as a Wau woman, evading security scans and slightly altering her personality to enhance technical aptitude in her Erma persona. Stationed near the academy, she resided with Seina Yamada, Amane Kaunaq, and Kiriko Masaki. Her mission focused on gathering intelligence on Seina, but she developed genuine affection for him. Loyalty was tested when the Tarant Shank faction, retaliating against Seina's capture of their assets, kidnapped her crew's families and demanded his assassination. Confronting Seina as Erma, she abandoned her mission after he gifted her an admired star pendant, revealing her true identity and intent. Overcome by guilt, she attempted suicide, which Seina prevented. Galaxy Police Chairwoman Airi Masaki then intervened, staging Ryoko's death to shield her from guild reprisals and facilitating her transition to a permanent Erma identity when necessary.
Following her capture and heritage revelation, Ryoko joined the Galaxy Police under Airi Masaki's directive to serve alongside Seina. She became the primary pilot for his ships, the Kamidake and later the Kamidake II, within the GP's anti-piracy decoy fleet. Her combat and strategic skills proved valuable during patrols and missions, including anti-pirate operations in the Renza Federation. She later participated in a political marriage to Seina alongside Amane, Kiriko, Neju Na Melmas, and others.
Her personality blends a collected, cultured demeanor with fierce independence. Well-versed in refined customs like the Japanese tea ceremony and excelling at cooking, she defies brutish pirate stereotypes. Male Galaxy Police officers often idolized her, with some deserting to join her crew. A unique hereditary biological trait grants her shapeshifting abilities, allowing forms like Erma or a mermaid, capable of being passed to descendants. This ability enabled her deep-cover espionage. She values both her Ryoko and Erma identities equally, refusing Seina's offer to discard either persona. Emotionally deep, particularly in devotion to Seina after his suicide intervention, she views him as her savior and vows lifelong dedication.
Named after the legendary space pirate Ryoko Hakubi, the only pirate to assault Jurai, she shares the namesake's reputation but not her violent tendencies. Her legacy encompasses her role as a noble pirate, integration into law enforcement, and eventual status as princess and Seina's wife, with her children inheriting her shapeshifting capability.
