Description
Kuze the Passing Disaster is a paladin affiliated with the Order, a religious institution that once held significant influence before falling into decline. In the aftermath of the Order’s collapse and the execution of many of its members, Kuze alone remained untouched, his fearsome reputation ensuring that none would move against him. He willingly took on the role of a scapegoat, shouldering the Order’s collective crimes so that the faith itself could endure. This act of sacrifice defines much of his later motivation, as he now dedicates himself to restoring the Order to its former strength and guiding it once again.
Outwardly, Kuze presents a starkly unassuming figure. He often appears tired and lethargic, carrying a large shield and wearing a perpetually lazy smile. He openly claims to have no combat ability whatsoever and tends to make self-deprecating jokes even in dangerous situations. This laid-back, almost apathetic demeanor conceals a deeply rooted commitment to his cause and an iron will to protect the legacy of the Order.
His role in the story aligns with that of a warrior and assassin serving the Order’s interests. When tensions between the ruling nation Aureatia and the New Principality of Lithia escalate, Aureatia hires him to assassinate Taren the Punished, a self-proclaimed demon king, in an effort to avert full-scale war. He undertakes this mission alongside Nihilo the Vortical Stampede, another assassin in Aureatia’s employ.
The true source of Kuze’s lethal reputation is his inseparable bond with Nastique the Quiet Singer. Nastique is an angelic entity visible and perceptible only to Kuze; to everyone else, she is completely undetectable and immune to any form of interference. She holds absolute authority over death itself. Whenever Kuze’s life is threatened, Nastique instantly and silently eliminates the attacker, regardless of that attacker’s power or defenses. This makes Kuze effectively untouchable and immortal in the eyes of his enemies. The pairing means that while Kuze is known as the Passing Disaster, Nastique is the actual Shura between them, a walking fate of death that strikes without warning. Kuze also possesses an enchanted weapon called Death’s Fang, a blade that causes instantaneous death with the slightest scratch and shares Nastique’s imperceptibility.
Kuze’s development is shaped by his profound loyalty to the Order. From a survivor who witnessed its dissolution, he evolves into a figure who actively fights to rebuild it, taking on dangerous missions and confronting those who have betrayed or attacked the group. Despite his outward sloth, his actions reveal a man deeply motivated by duty, faith, and the preservation of a community he refuses to let die. His key relationships center on Nastique, who is simultaneously his partner, protector, and the instrument of his infamy, and on the memory of the Order’s fallen members, whose legacy he carries forward. Through these bonds, Kuze moves through the world as a deceptive force: seemingly powerless and indifferent, yet capable of unleashing absolute death through the angel at his side.
