Description
Alus, known as the Star Runner, is a wyvern who stands as a singular anomaly within his own species. His most defining physical trait is being born with three fully developed arms, a stark deviation from the typical wyvern physiology which has no arms at all. Within his species, where perfect wing and body shapes are considered the ideal of beauty, his form is regarded as ugly and aberrant. In contrast to the fierce, wild, and highly social nature of ordinary wyverns who depend on communal living, Alus possesses an exceptionally calm, quiet, and reserved personality. He speaks slowly, often pausing between words, and his demeanor is that of a stoic, ever-calm individual who rarely shows emotion. This bizarre psychology extends to his fundamental drives; unlike other wyverns focused on survival and reproduction, Alus has no interest in mating or typical feeding. Instead, he harbors a dragon-like, insatiable lust for treasure, legendary items, and personal glory.
Driven by this powerful longing, Alus left his flock to live as a solitary adventurer and rogue, traveling the world to challenge dungeons and amass a collection of powerful magical equipment. His motivations are rooted in a desire to prove he is more than just a wyvern, to live freely without being bound to any nation or people, and ultimately, to conquer and perhaps even own a country of his own. This path was inspired decades ago when, as a clumsy young wyvern, he broke his wing and was saved and hidden by a human boy, Harghent the Silencer. This event forged his only true friendship, and despite his general indifference toward others, Alus deeply values Harghent and will appear without warning to protect him if he is in danger.
In the story, Alus is a wandering Shura, a powerful warrior whose reputation precedes him. He is first seen coming to the aid of Harghent, now a general of Aureatia, during a deadly mission. His actions often blur the lines between ally and enemy, driven primarily by his own goals and his bond with Harghent. Initially a rogue figure, his role transforms dramatically after a devastating defeat against the ancient dragon Lucnoca, during which he loses a wing. To survive, he uses a powerful magic item, Chiklorakk the Eternity Machine, which rebuilds his body with mechanical components. This transformation serves as a deadly upgrade, granting him a near-immortal healing factor that can regenerate lost limbs and organs. However, this power comes at a catastrophic cost; the machine steadily degrades his mind, eroding his memories and emotions and transforming him into a greedy, increasingly inhuman monster obsessed with acquiring more magic items. In this state, he becomes the primary antagonist and Aureatia's greatest enemy, launching a devastating one-wyvern assault on the city to plunder its treasures.
Key relationships define his existence. His bond with Harghent is the sole emotional anchor in his life, and even after his mind is corrupted by the Eternity Machine, the sight of his friend in danger can still provoke a response. Conversely, he is viewed as a category traitor by Regnejee, the Wing of Dusk, a commander of a wyvern flock who despises Alus for abandoning their kind to live a solitary life. Their conflict culminates in a fierce sky battle, where Alus, despite severe injuries, uses his magical flames to fatally wound Regnejee.
Alus's notable abilities are a product of his unique physiology and his vast collection of treasure. His three arms allow him to wield multiple weapons simultaneously with extreme skill, such as holding a two-handed weapon alongside a one-handed weapon, or expertly switching between guns, swords, and whips in the midst of combat. He is also the fastest being in the sky, able to fly faster than any other wyvern or dragon. Beyond physical combat, he is skilled in mechanics and magical arts. His arsenal of collected items is extensive and forms the core of his power. He wields a standard musket with a custom wyvern grip, using specialized ammunition like poison bullets that cause nerves to burst. His melee options include the Hand of Kio, a whip-blade that can strike from over twenty meters away, and the Light Sword of Hirenjingen, an energy blade capable of cutting dragons in half. He also possesses the Screaming Bird, a flying, self-attacking dagger-sword, and the Ground Runner, a sentient flame that chases enemies. For defense, he carries the Shield of the Dead, a charm that projects a barrier capable of blocking any attack. Following his mechanization, his abilities become even more terrifying; his body becomes an immortal automatic machine that can only be stopped by the complete destruction of his head, making him a relentless force of nature.
