Description
Harghent, also known as Harghent the Still, is the Sixth General of the Twenty-Nine Officials of Aureatia. He is an aging military officer, depicted with dark greying hair and a neat mustache, wearing a blue tunic and red cape as his uniform. Despite his advanced age having cost him the physical fitness of his younger days, he remains a highly trained and experienced leader.

In terms of personality, Harghent is a man of strong honor and considerable ambition. He seeks greater heights of power and renown, showing a willingness to charge headfirst into dangerous situations when his personal values demand it, even while understanding his own lack of talent and intelligence compared to others. This ambition is often frustrated, as he is mocked by peers as a Wing Clipper for his frequent assignments to mundane, low-risk wyvern extermination missions, a role that affords him little glory. This has fostered a deep and enduring jealousy, particularly towards Alus the Star Runner, a mutant wyvern he once sheltered but whose later heroic exploits have become a source of great resentment for the general.

His primary motivation is to achieve greatness and prove his worth, striving to escape the shadow of his more celebrated contemporaries and rivals. This drive leads him to participate in the conflict against the New Principality of Lithia and later to seek out powerful beings to sponsor for the Sixways Exhibition, a tournament meant to determine the true hero. His role in the story is significant as a military leader of Aureatia. During the war with Lithia, he leads a failed expedition to slay the dragon Vikeon the Smoldering, only for Alus to intervene and claim the victory. Later, during Lithia's assault on Mage City, he rallies the defending troops and leads a counterattack, though his thunder is again stolen by Alus, who decimates the enemy wyvern army. His pursuit of the enemy commander Regnejee the Wings of Sunset ends in frustration when his target is killed by Alus from a distance, leaving Harghent broken with fury and regret.

Key relationships define much of his journey. His bond with Alus the Star Runner is central, evolving from a protector to a sworn rival driven by jealousy. He also has a strained relationship with fellow Official Hidow the Clamp, who harshly criticizes his lack of forethought. Later, Harghent travels to Igania Ice Lake with the swordsman Lagrex the Butchering Landslide, not to slay the ancient dragon Lucnoca the Winter, but to recruit her as his champion. When Lagrex fails to wound the dragon, Harghent successfully piques Lucnoca's curiosity by telling her of Alus, and she agrees to accompany him to Aureatia.

Throughout the narrative, Harghent shows little development in his core personality, remaining ambitious and frustrated. His abilities, however, are noteworthy. He is an officer-level commander capable of effective troop leadership in chaotic battles. He possesses engineering skills, specifically in Craft Arts, allowing him to forge a massive ballista called the Dragon Slayer, which he can fire unaided. His specialty is wyvern-slaying, having led hundreds of expeditions and developed effective tactics using marksmen and Word Arts to trap and eliminate the creatures from a distance, experience he uses to pinpoint enemy positions during the siege of Lithia.
