Description
Pechka is the magical girl identity of Chika Tatehara, a middle school student who appears in Magical Girl Raising Project: Restart. In her everyday life, Chika is a shy and timid girl with low self-esteem and little confidence in her appearance. She considers herself unattractive and uninteresting, which makes her hesitant and passive when interacting with others. Her decision to become a magical girl comes from these feelings of inadequacy rather than any ambition to fight or help others. She hopes that gaining a beautiful and strong magical form will give her the confidence to approach her classmate Ninomiya, a boy she has a crush on, and she intends to win his affection by giving him food she prepares.

As a magical girl, Pechka wears a chef-inspired costume and carries a spatula and frying pan as her tools. Her magical ability centers on cooking: after maintaining contact with any object for five minutes, she can transform it into delicious-tasting food. This power has no direct combat application, which places her in a support role during the events of Restart. When the magical girls are drawn into a game-like virtual world and forced to take part in a survival game created by the magical girl Keek, Pechka joins a party known as Team Clantail, along with Clantail, Rionetta, and Nonako Miyokata. Because her ability is unsuited to battle, she and Nonako often handle scouting while Clantail and Rionetta fight monsters and gather items.

At the start of the story, Pechka struggles with feelings of inferiority because she cannot contribute to combat, and her companions initially view her as a burden. She gradually earns their trust and respect through her cooking. The meals she creates with her magic are exceptionally tasty and help lift the morale of the team during the difficult game. Rionetta in particular comes to enjoy Pechka's cooking and recognizes her as a genuine friend. For Pechka, being able to support her allies in this way brings her real happiness and helps build her confidence.

Pechka's main personal struggle is her fear and passivity. She dislikes violence and is frightened by the danger and death surrounding her in the game world. Early on, she often freezes in terrifying situations and wishes she were braver. Her growth is driven by loss: after she fails to save Nonako's life, she blames herself for being unable to fight and resolves to stop freezing up and to act decisively to protect her friends. Her development is not immediate, however, because shortly afterward she remains paralyzed by fear while watching Melville kill Rionetta and is unable to do anything to stop it.

Another part of her background is that, like most of the other participants in Keek's game, her memories of a previous elimination game overseen by the magical girl Cranberry were erased. She is also a relatively new magical girl, having held the role for about a year and a half at the time of the story.

Pechka's arc culminates in a final act of bravery. After finding the resolve to face her fear, she is killed by Melville when she blocks a javelin aimed at Clantail, sacrificing herself to protect her friend. Her story follows a path from insecurity and self-doubt to selfless courage that emerges only at the end. She also appears in a significant role in the later story Unripe Duet.
