TV-Series
Description
Kenichiro Ryuzaki, more commonly known by his nickname Kencho, is a main character and the best friend of the protagonist, Akira Tendou. He is a 24-year-old man with a tall, athletic, and muscular build, standing at 188 centimeters. He has energetic olive-brown eyes and formerly black hair that he has dyed blonde, with the sides of his head shaven and left undyed, resulting in two long strands framing his face. His typical outfit consists of an unbuttoned sky-blue dress shirt that reveals his well-defined physique, paired with hot pink pants and brown dress shoes.
Before the zombie apocalypse, Kencho worked as a salesman for a major real estate company. On the surface, he appeared to be leading a successful and enviable life, boasting about his job, dining with politicians, and having a model girlfriend. In reality, he was deeply unhappy. He despised his profession because it required him to lie to clients and trick them into signing unfavorable contracts, a constant source of guilt and emptiness. His true, long-suppressed dream was to become a comedian who could genuinely make people happy.
In terms of personality, Kencho is a lively, funny, and highly charismatic individual. When Akira finds him at the start of the outbreak, Kencho confesses the truth about his miserable work life and sheds his former boastful facade. After this heartfelt confession, he regains his natural exuberant spirit and enthusiastically joins Akira on his journey to live life to the fullest. He is a loyal and supportive friend who almost always agrees with Akira's often reckless desires, often exclaiming that he thinks the ideas are great. However, he is also portrayed as a shameless womanizer who has had multiple brief encounters and girlfriends. His behavior often serves as comic relief, most notably his complete lack of modesty, which leads him to frequently strip down to nothing for various purposes, such as luring zombies or making a daring leap between buildings.
Kencho's primary motivation is to finally pursue his own happiness and his dream of becoming a comedian, which he adds to Akira's bucket list. This is also tied to a deep desire to honor his late grandfather, who was the only father figure in his life after his father's absence. His grandfather’s wisdom shaped the person he is, and one of Kencho's most important goals is to visit his grave. He also aims to bring a smile to as many people as possible.
His role in the story is that of a deuteragonist and the first companion to join Akira's travel group. He saves Akira and the others from danger on multiple occasions, often using his own body as a distraction for zombies. He is also the one who raises the group's spirits when morale is low. His key relationship is with Akira Tendou, his longtime best friend from their university days and former rugby teammate. Together with another friend, they once dreamed of opening a bar in the future. He also develops a close bond with the other members of the group, including Shizuka and Beatrix, for whom he quickly develops a strong attraction.
Throughout the story, Kencho undergoes significant personal development, transforming from a depressed salaryman hiding behind a mask of success into a liberated individual who openly pursues his genuine passions. This is shown when he abandons his old life without hesitation and embraces a new one full of joy and absurdity. He also demonstrates a willingness to sacrifice his own comfort and safety for his friends, such as when he suffers a severe injury from a trap, and later when he supports Akira during a confrontation with his abusive former boss. Notable abilities include his peak physical condition and raw strength from his rugby background, which allows him to fight zombies effectively. He also possesses unusually high resistance to electricity, as demonstrated when he survives prolonged contact with a high-voltage electric fence.
