Description
Majic Lin is a young teenager who serves as the apprentice to the sorcerer Orphen. He is the son of Bagup, a tavern keeper in the city of Totokanta, and his initial arrangement to learn magic comes from his father bartering room and board in exchange for Orphen's reluctant agreement to take Majic on as a pupil. Physically, Majic is described as a slender boy with pale skin, blue eyes, and medium-length blonde hair, typically dressed in simple, casual clothes that reflect his humble origins.

In terms of personality, Majic is characterized by an adventurous and brave spirit combined with a deep fascination for sorcery and sorcerers. He possesses an innate kindness and a degree of naivety, which is balanced by a quiet disposition that often leads him to take a back seat to the more boisterous bickering between Orphen and his childhood friend, Cleao. Despite his aspirations, he frequently battles with self-doubt and a significant lack of confidence, especially in the early stages of his training, sometimes becoming overwhelmed by the dangerous realities of traveling with his master. His admiration and trust in Orphen are profound, and he consistently looks up to him, addressing him respectfully as master, even when others, including his own father, express doubts about Orphen's qualifications as a dropout from the Tower of Fang.

Majic's primary role in the story is that of a sorcerer-in-training and the second male lead, journeying alongside Orphen, Cleao, and her Deep Dragon cub, Leki. His motivation is earnestly to become a powerful sorcerer like his mentor, striving to overcome his own perceived inadequacies to become a reliable companion. He is a diligent student who retains knowledge well, but his practical application of magic is often hindered by anxiety in high-pressure situations. This leads to instances where his spells fail, never activate, or veer wildly out of control, although this is contrasted by the emergence of aberrant, obscenely powerful spells when he acts on pure instinct or desperation.

His key relationships are central to his development. His bond with his master, Orphen, is the most significant, with Orphen recognizing Majic's latent potential and offering occasional encouragement that helps bolster the boy's courage. He also shares a childhood connection with Claiomh Everlasting (Cleao), having attended the same school before she left for boarding school, a dynamic that creates a degree of distance between them despite their shared history. Throughout the narrative, Majic experiences considerable development, evolving from an anxious and occasionally hysterical novice into a more proficient and capable sorcerer. A crucial aspect of his background is the revelation that his significant magical aptitude is an inherited trait from his mother, Iris Lin, a powerful sorceress and assassin with vampire physiology, which grants him exceptional potential that is ultimately said to surpass even Orphen's own abilities. By the conclusion of the original novel series, Majic is recognized as a world-class sorcerer and even takes on the role of master himself, becoming a lecturer at a school of sorcery and taking Orphen and Cleao's firstborn child, Ratsbane, as his own apprentice.

Regarding his notable abilities, Majic displays an extraordinary gift for learning magic. He is able to cast spells in just two weeks, a process that typically takes other sorcerers years of serious training. Despite his struggles with control, he demonstrates a natural aptitude for figuring out complex incantations, such as spatial transition, without being formally taught. His inherited power occasionally manifests as aberrant, destructive spells, and as he grows in confidence, he becomes capable of providing valuable support in combat, such as creating barriers to help Orphen exploit an enemy's weakness.
