Description
Ericht Samaya is a central figure in the narrative of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, first introduced as a four-year-old girl living with her family at the Vanadis Institute's research facility, Fólkvangr. She is the daughter of Elnora Samaya, a test pilot and researcher, and Nadim Samaya, who also works for the institute's partner, Ochs Earth. Physically, she is a young girl with short, red hair that frames her face and reaches her neck, combined with bright blue or green eyes. Her personality in these early years is marked by a pure, cheerful, and deeply curious nature, traits which occasionally cause her parents a small measure of concern but also endear her to the staff around her.

Ericht's motivations and role in the story are dramatically shaped by the events of the Prologue, which takes place on her fourth birthday. Feeling that the adult researchers, including her parents, are more preoccupied with the revolutionary mobile suit Gundam Lfrith than with her celebration, she wanders into the laboratory where the machine is housed. There, Dr. Cardo Nabo, the head researcher, registers her with the Lfrith, establishing a unique connection between the girl and the Gundam. This connection proves to be of monumental importance when the special forces unit Dominicus, acting on orders from the Mobile Suit Development Council, launches a deadly attack on Fólkvangr to eradicate the GUND Format technology.

In the ensuing chaos, Ericht seeks refuge inside the cockpit of the Gundam Lfrith. While her mother Elnora, an experienced pilot, could not access the Gundam's full power, the four-year-old Ericht effortlessly achieves a Permet Score of 33—a level previously deemed impossible because the resulting data storm would be lethal to an adult pilot. Ericht displayed a unique, inherent tolerance to this phenomenon, becoming a key figure as a Permet user. Through the mobile suit's interface, she was able to perceive the battlefield and destroy several enemy units by simply touching their images on a screen, comparing the resulting explosions to birthday candles, blissfully unaware of the violence she was enacting. This event, known as the Vanadis Incident, results in the death of her father, Nadim, who sacrifices himself to ensure his wife and daughter can escape. Ericht survives the attack alongside her mother, but the loss of her father leaves a profound mark.

Following the prologue, Ericht's existence undergoes a fundamental transformation. After escaping to the harsh environment of Mercury, her fragile human body began to fail under the planet's conditions. To save her daughter's life, Elnora, now going by the name Prospera Mercury, developed a revolutionary method. She transferred Ericht's biological data, or bio-code, into the Gundam Lfrith's data storm, effectively converting her consciousness into a being akin to the Permet particles that form the basis of GUND technology. Ericht was then transferred into a new mobile suit, the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial, which became both her vessel and her body. In this new form, Ericht remained devoted to her mother's long-term plan for revenge against the Benerit Group and its leader, Delling Rembran, for the attack on Fólkvangr.

As an entity residing within the Gundam Aerial, Ericht develops a new and crucial relationship with Suletta Mercury, a girl raised by Prospera to believe she is the pilot and daughter of the family. While Suletta acts as the public-facing pilot, Ericht is the true intelligence operating the mobile suit's GUND-BITs and protecting her sister from the lethal effects of high-Permet score data storms. She communicates with Suletta through the cockpit, offering comfort and guidance, showing a deep attachment and a desire to shield her from the darker aspects of their mother's mission. However, Ericht's development also shows a more decisive and even ruthless side when it comes to anyone threatening Prospera's goals, as she is prepared to use lethal force through the Aerial's systems.

The revelation of her true nature becomes a pivotal moment. Eventually, Ericht seizes full control of the Gundam Aerial to follow her mother's revised plan, depriving Suletta of the ability to pilot the machine and revealing their shared history. Her abilities at this stage are immense; she can independently raise the Permet Score to 8 and manifest her own will, becoming a key component of the Quiet Zero system, a project designed to control all Permet-linked systems across the cosmos. Her unique origin as a human consciousness existing within a data network makes her an unparalleled entity in her universe. Ultimately, her final act is a peaceful resolution, where her data self is transferred into a small, physical "Hot" keychain, allowing her to continue existing alongside her sister Suletta and Miorine Rembran in a quiet, everyday life.
