Description
Justine is a major character and a Pokémon Trainer from the twentieth Pokémon animated film, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!. Of foreign origin, she is originally from Floaroma Town, a settlement in the distant Sinnoh region. Her decision to travel to the Kanto region is deeply personal, stemming from the immense pressure of being the daughter of a famous and highly skilled Pokémon Trainer. Feeling unable to live up to her mother's high expectations, Justine left home to begin her own journey on her own terms, starting her adventure with a Piplup as her first partner Pokémon.

Justine is defined by her serious, focused, and sometimes cautious personality, which serves as a counterbalance to the more impulsive nature of her traveling companion, Ash Ketchum. Despite her initial reservations, she is a loyal and capable friend. Her primary motivation throughout the film is to find her own path as a trainer and forge her own identity, separate from the legacy of her renowned mother. In the story, she joins Ash on his quest to encounter the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh. Along with another trainer named Sorrel, the three form a tight-knit group that travels across the Kanto region, facing various challenges and legendary Pokémon, including the mythical Marshadow.

Her key relationships are with Ash and Sorrel, who become her close friends and allies. The dynamic of their trio is central to the film's narrative. A significant, though mostly off-screen, relationship is the one with her unnamed mother, whose shadow looms over Justine's self-perception and drives her character arc. While the mother is a famous Sinnoh Trainer, the film's director has clarified that she is not the Champion Cynthia, despite some physical similarities and popular fan speculation. Over the course of the film, Justine develops greater confidence in her own abilities and learns that being a trainer is about the bond with her Pokémon, not just meeting external standards of strength or fame.

As a trainer, Justine is shown to be competent and knowledgeable. Her notable abilities are demonstrated through her battle tactics and her rapport with her Pokémon. Her primary partner is Piplup, a Water-type Pokémon. Later in the film, she also captures a Lapras, adding a powerful and gentle Pokémon to her team. Through her actions and determination, she proves herself to be a skilled trainer in her own right, capable of handling dangerous situations and contributing to the group's success.
