Description
BG9, designated as Sternritter K, is a member of the Wandenreich's elite fighting force, the Star Knights. This being is a unique entity, as its entire body has been modified into a machine, making it a Quincy constructed of mechanical parts rather than a conventional living organism. BG9 stands at 190 centimeters tall and has an appearance resembling a suit of armor, often concealing its form beneath the standard white Sternritter cloak. It wears a distinctive helmet that looks like an axe blade or a medieval knight's visor, featuring several vertical slits and a single glowing eye. When damaged or decommissioned, BG9 leaks a dark, oil-like substance instead of blood, further emphasizing its robotic nature.

The personality of BG9 is that of a cold, analytical, and ruthless machine. It approaches combat not with emotion but with a focus on gathering and processing data about its opponents, often speaking in detached, statistical terms. This methodical nature makes it a formidable analyst on the battlefield. Despite this machine-like demeanor, BG9 displays cruel and sadistic tendencies, willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve its objectives. It has no qualms about harming non-combatants or the loved ones of its enemies as a method of interrogation and coercion. Notably, for a being that claims to have no life from its inception, BG9 exhibits a deep-seated fear of death, a contradiction that becomes evident when it is faced with its own demise. BG9's primary motivation is to serve the Quincy King, Yhwach, and fulfill its mission parameters. It is driven by a directive to exterminate the Soul Reapers and demonstrates a pride in its abilities, believing its own power to be sufficient without needing to rely on stolen techniques.

In the story of the Thousand-Year Blood War, BG9 plays the role of an antagonist, specifically targeting the Second Division of the Gotei 13. During the first invasion of the Soul Society, BG9 ambushes Captain Soi Fon. In their initial confrontation, BG9 demonstrates the Wandenreich's primary tactical advantage by using a medallion to steal Soi Fon's Bankai, Jakuhō Raikōben, effectively neutralizing her greatest weapon. After this success, it retreats with the rest of the invasion force back to the Vandenreich's ice palace, where it is present when Yhwach names Uryu Ishida as his successor.

During the second invasion, BG9 reappears at the estate of the wealthy Omaeda family, seeking to finish its previous fight. It confronts Soi Fon's lieutenant, Marechiyo Omaeda, and threatens him to reveal his captain's location. When Omaeda refuses, BG9 demonstrates its cruelty by impaling his younger sister, Mareyo, on one of its tendrils. The arrival of Captain Soi Fon saves Omaeda, and she engages BG9 using an advanced form of her Shunko technique. However, BG9 proves resilient, surviving her assault and counterattacking with its hidden arsenal, including missiles and a reishi minigun, leaving Soi Fon severely wounded.

The tide of the battle turns due to the intervention of Kisuke Urahara. Using a special substance called the Hollowfication Pill, or "Hakuei Yaku," Soi Fon is able to forcibly retrieve her stolen Bankai from the medallion BG9 possesses. Now re-empowered, Soi Fon uses her Bankai to launch a devastating rocket-propelled warhead at BG9. Although BG9 manages to use its Quincy ability, Vollständig, the "Quincy: Perfect Holy Form," to repair the damage and save its own life, it is still decisively defeated. This failure to eliminate its target leads to its execution.

The key relationships BG9 has are primarily antagonistic. Its main adversary is Captain Soi Fon, whose power it both steals and later fights to the death. It also has a transactional relationship with its fellow Sternritter, particularly Jugram Haschwalth, the Grandmaster of the Sternritter, who acts as its superior. BG9's development is not one of emotional growth but a revelation of its hidden facets. Initially presented as an unfeeling and unstoppable machine, it ultimately reveals a very human-like fear of being destroyed. When it is brought before Yhwach for its failure, BG9 breaks its stoic composure to beg for mercy, pleading that it can still be useful in battle. This final moment reveals a desperate survival instinct beneath its cold, metallic exterior. Its journey ends not in a blaze of glory, but with its execution by Jugram Haschwalth in the Vandenreich's capital city of Silbern, a punishment for its defeat and failure to carry out the Quincy King's orders.

BG9 possesses a range of notable abilities that reflect its mechanical nature. Its body houses multiple integrated weapon systems, including a large, concealed Gatling gun and several compartments that fire high-explosive missiles. It can extend long, sharp tendrils or metal cords from its body to impale opponents or manipulate objects from a distance. True to its analytical personality, BG9 has a specific data extraction ability, using its tendrils to envelop a fallen opponent and gather information on their spiritual abilities. As a Quincy, it also masters standard techniques of its kind, including Hirenkyaku for high-speed movement and Blut Vene, which hardens its mechanical skin to provide immense defensive capabilities. Its ultimate technique is the Vollständig, which it activates to resurrect itself from a state of critical damage, healing its wounds and restoring its combat functionality. Despite its power, one of the most defining aspects of BG9 is a negative one: its specific Schrift power represented by the letter K is never revealed, making it one of the few Sternritter whose unique ability remains a complete mystery.
