Description
Meiko Uehara is a central character who begins her journey as a college student in 1992, when she takes what she believes to be a simple part-time job at a computer shop. Her life takes an unexpected turn when the shop manager, Rokuta, discovers the impressive illustrations she draws in her spare time. Recognizing her raw talent, he brings her to the second floor, which houses the true nature of the business: an erotic game developer named Alcohol Soft. Although she is initially caught off guard by the situation, she is quickly hired to fill a sudden vacancy as a sub-graphic manager, marking the beginning of her career as a creator in the bishoujo game industry.

In terms of appearance, Meiko has a slender build with light pink hair styled in a short bob, complemented by matching light pink eyes. She is often distinguished by a characteristic ahoge, a single strand of hair that sticks up from her head. Her typical attire includes a light pink dress with a square neckline adorned with black trim, worn over a dark gray long-sleeved shirt, often paired with pantyhose and black heels.

Meiko’s personality is defined by a natural kindness and a willingness to support others. This trait is notably demonstrated when she immediately offers to help a displaced girl named Konoha Akisato, being the first to suggest giving her a chance at Alcohol Soft. As an artist, she is a fast learner who, despite having no prior experience with erotic games, quickly adapts to the technical limitations of the era, such as creating illustrations with only fifteen colors using a mouse. While she shows great talent and is even praised as a genius by her senior, she also displays a sense of modesty and embarrassment regarding the adult nature of the work, especially when criticized for her inability to draw explicit content. This tension between her artistic ability and her comfort level with the subject matter is a core part of her character.

Throughout the story, Meiko’s primary role is as the concept and line art illustrator for Alcohol Soft. She evolves from a rookie thrown into a high-pressure deadline to a confident professional. Her development is marked by key milestones, such as being recommended to handle the original character designs for a new game and having her real name listed in game magazines, which brings her a measure of early popularity. By the age of twenty-four, she graduates from college and successfully secures a job as a professional illustrator, solidifying her path as an artist.

Her relationships with those around her are crucial to her growth. Her senior, Kaori Shimoda, acts as a mentor, guiding her through the technical and moral complexities of drawing adult games, such as showing her how to draw fake nipples when Meiko refuses to draw an H-scene. She also interacts closely with other members of Alcohol Soft, including Kiyoshi and Mamoru Rokuda, the latter being the son of the shop owner who is a strong proponent of the PC-98 platform. Her connection to Konoha Akisato, a time-traveling illustrator from the future, is particularly significant. Despite the decades that separate their original timelines, they are the same biological age, and their meeting creates a unique bond that bridges the past and the future of bishoujo game development.

As an artist, Meiko’s notable ability is her innate talent for drawing. Despite starting with no knowledge of the industry, her skills are so exceptional that she quickly becomes a core member of the development team, eventually taking charge of creating multiple characters for a single game. She continues to work at Alcohol Soft, focusing on the development of pretty girl games, representing the passionate and artistic heart of the 1990s doujin and eroge scene.
