Description
Konoha Akisato is the main protagonist of 16bit Sensation: Another Layer. She is a nineteen-year-old illustrator living in the year 2023 who holds a deep and passionate love for visual novels and bishoujo games, admiring both classic titles and modern releases. Her greatest aspiration is to one day create her own game. She works at a small studio called Blue Bell, but the realities of the contemporary industry leave her disillusioned; instead of producing meaningful art, she is assigned menial tasks such as coloring the backs of background characters. Konoha has a highly emotional and childlike personality, becoming easily excited or downhearted over small events. She occasionally displays a playful, slightly eccentric side that reflects her otaku interests, and she is known to have a small fang on the right side of her mouth. She also works as a streamer and has a habit of referring to herself in the third person.
After a chance encounter with a mysterious vintage game shop, Konoha is transported back in time to the year 1992, the golden age of bishoujo games. Stranded in the past, she joins Alcohol Soft, a small game company that occupies the same building that will later house Blue Bell. Unable to return to her own time, she begins working as an illustrator for Alcohol Soft, using her knowledge of future trends and technologies to help the struggling studio find success. This experience forces her to adapt to the limitations of older hardware and traditional illustration methods, relying on her raw talent and determination rather than modern conveniences.
Konoha develops complex relationships with the people she meets in the past. She works closely with Mamoru Rokuda, the son of Alcohol Soft's owner, who is fiercely devoted to the PC-98 platform and resistant to the shift toward Windows. Their differing perspectives on the future of game development create tension. She also bonds with other staff members, including Kaori Shimoda and Touya Yamada, who become her colleagues and friends. Through these interactions, Konoha gains a deeper appreciation for the craft of game development and the people who built the industry. Over the course of her journey, she grows from a frustrated junior illustrator into a more confident and resourceful creator, learning to balance her modern sensibilities with the realities of the past while striving to fulfill her dream of making her own bishoujo game.
