Description
Minare Koda is the protagonist of the story. She is a twenty-six-year-old woman working as a floor manager at a small soup curry restaurant called Voyager in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Her life takes an unexpected turn after a painful breakup with her boyfriend. Heartbroken and drinking alone at a bar one night, she unleashes a long, unfiltered rant about her ex to the stranger sitting next to her. That stranger is Kanetsugu Mato, a director at a local radio station. He secretly records her drunken ramblings and broadcasts them the next day. When Minare hears her own voice on the air, she storms to the station in a panic to stop the broadcast, but a chain of events leads to her delivering an impromptu, emotionally charged monologue live on air. Impressed by her raw talent and ability to speak fluently and passionately without hesitation, Mato offers her a role as a late-night radio talk show host. Minare accepts, and she begins hosting a program on Moiwayama Radio Station, balancing her new broadcasting career with her daytime job at the restaurant to support herself.
Minare Koda has a bold, outspoken, and highly expressive personality. She is naturally talkative and wears her emotions on her sleeve, often speaking with dramatic energy and complete sincerity. This unfiltered honesty, sometimes amplified by alcohol, is what first catches the attention of the radio producer. She is spontaneous and quick-witted, capable of turning a mundane topic into an engaging, lively story. Despite her confidence on the microphone, she is also shown to be a grounded and hardworking individual who faces real adult struggles, such as financial pressure, heartbreak, and the challenge of balancing multiple responsibilities.
Her initial motivation is simply to get over her ex-boyfriend, but as she falls into the world of radio, she discovers a genuine talent for connecting with listeners. Her voice is described as powerful and able to stir an audience, and she gains praise for her natural skill as a broadcaster. She uses the show as a platform for honest expression, covering a wide range of narratives from personal grievances to dramatic storytelling, and she often reads listener letters and offers unfiltered opinions.
Key relationships in her life include Kanetsugu Mato, who serves as both her employer and a mentor figure who recognizes her potential despite the chaotic way they met. She also interacts with her coworkers at the restaurant and with various staff and personalities at the radio station, including fellow broadcasters and technicians. Her ex-boyfriend remains a recurring topic of her rants, especially in the early part of the story.
Over the course of the narrative, Minare develops from a heartbroken restaurant worker into a recognized and appreciated radio personality. She learns to harness her natural expressiveness into a professional skill, adapting to the demands of live broadcasting while staying true to her authentic self. Her notable ability is her exceptional vocal expressiveness and her talent for captivating an audience with spontaneous, emotionally charged speech, which she is able to channel into a successful radio show.
