Description
Nustradamus II is a supporting antagonist in the 2023 animated film Shin Jigen! Crayon Shin-chan THE MOVIE: Chounouryoku Daikessen ~Tobe Tobe Temakizushi~, the first fully 3DCG entry in the Crayon Shin-chan film series. He appears partway through the story as a mysterious figure who claims to be the reincarnation of Nusuttoradamasu, the prophet who once lived in the neighborhood next to Nostradamus and left behind a prophecy stating that in a year containing the numbers 20 and 23, two lights would fall from the sky, one dark and one small and white, bringing upheaval to the world.

In terms of background, Nustradamus II is the leader of an organization called the Reiwa Tenpuku-dan, which he describes as dedicated to overturning the current order. He operates out of an abandoned aquarium and amusement park called Osakana Land, where he has established a facility housing people who feel rejected by society. Within this facility, he collects their negative energy, intending to use it to bring about his plans for the world.

His personality is theatrical, self-important, and grandiose. He speaks in dramatic declarations about the decline of Japan, claiming that the country has been left behind in global competition and will collapse within fifty years. He presents himself as a visionary who believes the world must be destroyed or remade in order to have any future, and he is confident in his own schemes, relying on prophecy and his own ideological convictions rather than personal combat.

His motivation is world conquest through the creation of a powerful psychic force. When he encounters Mitsuru Hiriya, a man who has awakened as a dark esper after being struck by the black light, he approaches him and tempts him by asking whether he would like to use his power for something greater, such as changing the world. He then brings Hiriya to his facility and uses a strange machine equipped with tentacle-like appendages to capture him and inject him with negative energy, transforming Hiriya into a rampaging monster and greatly escalating the destruction and chaos across the country. In this way, his role in the story is to turn an already dangerous villain into a far greater threat, forcing the protagonist Shinnosuke Nohara and his allies into a more desperate confrontation.

Nustradamus II has a notable personal relationship with Professor Ikebukuro, an advisor to the International Esper Adjustment Committee and one of the adults helping Shinnosuke. The two are revealed to be childhood friends, having known each other since high school, and despite being on opposite sides of the conflict they address each other with casual familiarity. This connection provides some comic relief and humanizes him slightly, showing that his rivalry with the professor is personal as well as ideological. His relationship with Hiriya is opportunistic and manipulative, as he uses Hiriya as a vessel for his plans rather than forming a genuine alliance.

In terms of development, Nustradamus II remains largely unchanged as a character. He does not undergo a redemption arc, and his beliefs are ultimately challenged rather than transformed. Near the end of the film, after the monster has been defeated and Hiriya has been saved, he attempts to flee by flying away on his own, insisting that if he simply leaves things as they are, the country will have no future and that he must overturn the world for that purpose. His exit is undercut by Hiroshi Nohara, who responds by suggesting that everyone continue their hand roll sushi party instead, deflating his grand rhetoric and steering the moment back toward everyday human connection. He is left as a lingering comedic villain figure whose ambitions are dismissed rather than defeated in battle.

His notable abilities include leadership of an organized group, access to advanced machinery capable of capturing and channeling energy, the power of flight, and an authoritative knowledge of prophecy. He is also an avid reader of a magazine called Monthly Nu, whose predictions he treats with great seriousness; one such prediction states that two black orbs emitting a foul odor will lead Shinnosuke to victory, a prophecy that is fulfilled comically through the smell of Hiroshi's socks. Overall, Nustradamus II serves as a catalyst who amplifies the film's central conflict while embodying the theme of ideological despair about the future, standing in contrast to the film's emphasis on friendship and simple human warmth.
