Description
Mokomoko Dannoura is the ghost of a distant ancestor of the Dannoura clan, serving as the guardian spirit of Tomochika Dannoura. Dating back to the Heian period, she appears as a small, floating, doll-like figure with a round face, closed eyes, and very long black hair, wearing traditional Japanese clothing from that era. She has no legs and is somewhat chubby in appearance. Only those with spiritual awareness can see or interact with her.

Born as a member of the Dannoura lineage, she is the wife of the founder's son of the Dannoura-style martial arts. In life, she was a master of Dannoura-style archery, and she retains that expertise as a spirit. She is responsible for preventing the sage Sion's Gift system from being installed on Tomochika, acting out of protectiveness to shield her descendant from unknown magical influence.

Personality-wise, Mokomoko is highly talkative and enjoys sharing anecdotes and facts about the Dannoura lineage whenever she gets the chance. She has a vibrant, jolly, and sometimes mischievous disposition, which contrasts with her status as a deceased spirit. She is fiercely protective of Tomochika and is determined to do anything necessary to keep her safe. She is also outspoken and witty, offering unsolicited advice on adventures and even romance. She possesses surprising knowledge about both ancient traditions and modern technology, including digital assets and video games, and has been known to borrow robotic units for recreation.

Her primary motivation is the protection and guidance of Tomochika, whom she watches over constantly. She is also motivated by a sense of pride in the Dannoura martial arts tradition and a desire to see her descendant thrive. She initially views Yogiri Takatou with extreme caution, as his overwhelming and inexplicable power unnerves her, but over time she comes to accept him as an indispensable member of their traveling party.

In the story, Mokomoko serves as Tomochika's constant companion, mentor, and scout. She provides tactical advice, supernatural assistance, and teaches Tomochika the Dannoura-style archery to help her defend herself. She also acts as a source of comic relief, filling the role of a talkative support character who lightens the mood during tense situations. She is a high-level spiritual being, extremely strong in spiritual combat, capable of defeating powerful spirits and even two high-ranking spirits of deceased swordsmen. However, she has a weakness against spiritual traps or abilities that specifically target spirits, and she cannot defend against Yogiri's absolute power of instant death.

Key relationships include her bond with Tomochika, whom she protects and mentors; her cautious but cooperative relationship with Yogiri; and her role as the one who prevented Sion's Gift from affecting Tomochika, placing her at odds with the sage's system. Her character does not undergo major development over the course of the series; she remains a static figure as a mentor and guardian, though she frequently risks her spiritual essence to protect Tomochika from magical threats.
