Description
Master Ryo is a twenty-eight-year-old Chinese martial arts master who specializes in Hakkaken, also known as the White Flower Fist, which is one of the thirty-two styles that make up the Western School. He has a mustache and bears scars on his face, abdomen, and buttocks, and his hobby is playing mah jongg. Ryo is deeply in love with Renhou, the head of the Western School, but the laws of the thirty-two styles forbid them from marrying unless he can prove that Hakkaken is the most powerful style. To achieve this, he enters a Chinese tournament. After the tournament, he joins the Tar-chan family in order to marry Renhou, reasoning that they now belong to different schools. Among the main characters, Ryo is initially the most serious and has a somewhat rude demeanor, but as his friendship with the family deepens, he becomes a kinder person. He also shares the same level of perverseness as Tar-chan. During a vampire story arc, Ryo briefly becomes a vampire and retains the power boost he gained even after returning to human form. Eventually he marries Renhou and frequently returns to China to visit her, and after their son is born he reveals a doting, parental side. In combat, Ryo is a top-class fighter who uses several ki-based attacks, such as the Hyappo Shinken and the Ryuuenken, and he is one of the few people capable of teaming up effectively with Tar-chan in battle.
