Description
Poe is the central character of the anime Stray Sheep: Poe no Chicchana Daibouken, a series of very short episodes built around his strange and recurring misadventures. He is a small ram whose defining traits are naivety, independence, and an endless curiosity that constantly draws him into trouble. His most distinctive characteristic is his habit of sleepwalking and daydreaming into the most unpredictable situations: in his dreams he wanders through strange and unfamiliar worlds, and he often wakes to find that he has maneuvered himself into an impossible predicament. This tendency drives the story, as each episode places him in a new crisis from which he must find a way out.

Poe's motivation is simple and consistent throughout the series. He wants to reunite with his herd and find the ewe of his dreams, and this longing shapes everything he does. Even when he becomes separated from the other sheep and finds himself in absurd or dangerous circumstances, that goal keeps him moving forward. He is hopeful by nature and remarkably persistent; although he often narrowly escapes serious harm, he never gives up hope and keeps pressing on no matter what he faces. His independence means he relies on his own judgment, while his curiosity makes him investigate the strange things he encounters, sometimes to his own detriment.

In the story, Poe serves as the protagonist of every episode, and the narrative follows his point of view as he sleepwalks, dreams, and stumbles from one situation to the next. His key relationships center on the herd he has been separated from and the idealized ewe who appears in his dreams as the object of his search. Over the course of the series, his resilience becomes his most consistent quality: each new ordeal tests his optimism, but his experiences never extinguish it. Poe has no special powers or abilities; what distinguishes him is his resourcefulness, his stubborn hopefulness, and his knack for surviving the strange and perilous situations his sleepwalking creates.
