Description
Alan Mizuki appears in the anime Amazing Nurse Nanako as a former college friend of Dr. Ogami who has since become his greatest rival. Their relationship soured following Mizuki's sabotage of an attempt by Dr. Ogami to revive a woman named Jamie, who was apparently one of the doctor's loves. This act of interference establishes Mizuki as a bitter antagonist driven by a long-standing personal grudge against his one-time associate.
Mizuki's role in the story is primarily defined by his obsessive belief that the nurse Nanako is actually a cyborg. During the events surrounding a military combat suit that Nanako is forced to wear, Mizuki claims that she is in fact a unit known as Nana-Go, a project that Dr. Ogami had demonstrated to him during their college years. Despite Nanako's desperate pleas that she is human and her inability to remove the suit, Mizuki refuses to listen or reconsider his position. This stubborn conviction fuels his actions as he unleashes a destructive robot named Griffith to attack her, leading to a massive confrontation that results in significant damage to Ogami Hospital.
Mizuki's motivations are rooted in his antagonistic history with Dr. Ogami, and he uses the situation with Nanako as an opportunity to strike at his rival. He demonstrates a willingness to use advanced technology for destructive purposes, controlling Griffith in an attempt to prove his theory about Nanako's nature. However, his plans go awry when he drops the robot's remote control, causing it to enter a mode where it attacks anything that moves. This loss of control escalates the situation far beyond his apparent intentions.
In terms of key relationships, Mizuki is connected to Jamie, the woman whose revival he sabotaged. Despite his earlier actions against her, Jamie ultimately comes to his rescue. After Mizuki is apprehended by authorities and is being transported to jail, Jamie self-destructs in order to free him, demonstrating a complex and self-sacrificing loyalty from the woman he had previously wronged.
Mizuki experiences a significant moment of development when his core belief about Nanako is definitively disproven. After the battle, the combat suit she is wearing runs out of battery power and falls apart, leaving her naked and visibly proving that she is entirely human and not a cyborg. This revelation, which occurs in a moment of vulnerability for Nanako, directly contradicts everything Mizuki had claimed and fought for. Regarding notable abilities, Mizuki is not shown to possess any supernatural powers or unique physical capabilities. Instead, his competence appears to lie in his knowledge of advanced technology from his college days with Dr. Ogami, and his ability to operate and deploy robotic weapons such as Griffith. His primary asset is his technical understanding, which he uses to challenge his rival.
