Description
Naoki Ishida is one of the main characters in the anime series Eternal Boys and its sequel installment Eternal Boys NEXT STAGE. He is a thirty-nine-year-old man with black hair and blue eyes, standing at 174 centimeters tall, with a birthday of October 17 and blood type AB. Ishida originally worked as a junior high school teacher but resigned due to his own personal feelings and now earns a living as a cram school teacher. He is characterized as a perfectionist who avoids undertaking tasks he does not believe he can accomplish successfully, and he has a strong fear of failure but also does not want to live with regret. This meticulous and somewhat stubborn nature makes him appear troublesome to others at times, yet it also drives his dedication.

Ishida's motivation for becoming an idol stems from a long-standing admiration for the popular idol group Gentlemen, whom he has been a fan of since his middle school days. He kept a photo of himself with Gentlemen member Sawao Soda in his pass case, a token of his fandom that is accidentally thrown away by a fellow group member. His desire to stand on the same stage as Gentlemen is a key personal goal. Within the idol group Eternal Boys, Ishida takes on the role of a diligent and serious member who often pushes himself and others to practice and perform at a high standard. He is particularly strict with fellow member Kentaro Sanada, chastising him for complaining about not improving in dance, which leads Kentaro to temporarily consider leaving the group. However, Ishida's own relentless practice in the park, observed by Makoto Kakizaki, demonstrates that he values effort and perseverance, even when results are not immediately visible.

Ishida's perfectionism and high standards sometimes cause friction with other members, especially Tsuyoshi Imagawa, with whom he has arguments. Over the course of the story, he learns to accept imperfection and to open up about his own vulnerabilities, such as admitting to his teammates that his stage mistake at the Men's Idol Fest was due to being distracted by seeing his idol Sawao Soda in the audience. This moment of honesty deepens his bonds with the group. In the NEXT STAGE film, Ishida continues to contribute as a steadfast and hardworking member, facing new challenges such as television drama, variety shows, and music program appearances. His notable abilities include a strong work ethic, organizational skills from his teaching background, and a capacity for self-reflection. He is also described as a literary type who writes essays, serving as a dependable older-brother figure within the group. His growth lies in learning to balance his perfectionism with camaraderie and embracing the messy, imperfect journey of being an idol.
