Description
Kōn Kitsunezuka, also known by the full name Kitsunezuka Ko'on-no-Kami, is the primary antagonist of the anime Samurai Pizza Cats. In the original Japanese version, he is a fox, while the English localization portrays him as a rat. He serves as the prime minister of the city of Little Tokyo, also called Edoropolis, a mechanical metropolis inhabited by anthropomorphic animal-like beings. His official title and position place him second only to the shogun, Emperor Fred, but he harbors a deep ambition to overthrow the shogun and seize absolute control of the city.
Kōn Kitsunezuka is characterized by his flamboyant, theatrical, and short-tempered personality. He is cunning and manipulative, but his schemes are often comically flawed and prone to spectacular failure. He frequently throws tantrums when his plans are thwarted, and he has a habit of cross-dressing as a disguise. Despite his intelligence and political acumen, his arrogance and impatience lead him to rely on bumbling subordinates and elaborate, overcomplicated plots that invariably backfire. His primary motivation is an insatiable desire for power and recognition; he craves the spotlight and believes he is destined to rule. He is obsessed with appearing grand and formidable, yet his incompetence makes him a source of constant frustration for himself and amusement for the audience.
In the story, Kōn Kitsunezuka acts as the central villain whose machinations drive the conflict of nearly every episode. He is the head of the city council and holds considerable political influence, but his true source of power comes from his army of ninja crows and his henchmen. His most trusted advisor is Jerry Atric, known in Japanese as Karasu Gennari-sai, a scheming crow who often smooths over the prime minister's blunders and devises new plots. He also commands Bad Bird, or Karamaru, the leader of the ninja crows, who are frequently dispatched to carry out his orders. The opposing side is led by Big Al Dente, or Inuyama Wanko-no-Kami, the commander of the palace guard, who closely monitors Kōn Kitsunezuka's activities and secretly enlists the hero trio known as the Samurai Pizza Cats to intercept his plans. While Kōn Kitsunezuka is aware of the Pizza Cats' interference, he never defeats them, and his villainy remains a persistent but ultimately ineffective threat.
Kōn Kitsunezuka's key relationships are defined by his role as a foil to the heroes. He views the Pizza Cats as his primary adversaries and spends most of his time devising new ways to eliminate them, often using giant robots or monstrous inventions. His relationship with his own staff is one of fear and exasperation; he berates his underlings when things go wrong, yet he depends on them entirely. There is no significant character development for Kōn Kitsunezuka over the course of the series. He remains a static character, never learning from his failures nor showing any capacity for redemption within the main narrative. In the finale, however, his schemes culminate in a city-wide crisis involving a comet, and after the climax he is ultimately exiled alongside his bumbling subordinates, meeting a fittingly anticlimactic end.
As for notable abilities, Kōn Kitsunezuka possesses no physical combat skills. His strengths lie in political manipulation, strategic planning, and access to the city's resources. He frequently commissions and deploys advanced mecha and weaponry, including the monstrous Robo-Weapons, to fight the Pizza Cats. He is also a skilled speaker and performer, using grand speeches and disguises to further his plots. However, his most distinguishing trait is his sheer persistence; no matter how many times he fails, he immediately begins plotting his next scheme, making him a recurring and memorable force in the series.
