TV-Series
Description
Daijiro Gō is the second eldest son of Professor Kentaro Gō and his wife Mitsuyo Gō, making him the middle brother between Kenichi and Hiyoshi. He is 17 years old and was born on November 18. Daijiro possesses a tall, strong, and large build, which is the most prominent aspect of his physical appearance, with black hair and black eyes. He typically wears a dark green and white uniform with a yellow V emblem on the chest and a black belt featuring a golden buckle.

In his early childhood, Daijiro was a playful and carefree individual. This personality shifted dramatically after his father, Professor Kentaro Gō, disappeared under unexplained circumstances, causing Daijiro to become more cynical, withdrawn, and to have a changed outlook on life. Concerned by this negative change, his mother sent him to the countryside to train under a martial arts master. This training instilled in him great discipline and tactical acumen, shaping him into a highly skilled martial artist who mastered several hand-to-hand fighting styles and forms of meditation. His specialty is the use of long, staff-like weapons, specifically the bō or naginata battle staff, which became his favorite weapon. Despite his large and imposing physique, Daijiro is not portrayed as gluttonous or boisterous. Instead, he is generally a quiet individual who is not afraid to voice his opinions, but he is not boastful or proud. He cares deeply about the well-being of his teammates both in battle and during training. Daijiro has a tender heart and a soft spot for animals, notably adopting a stray puppy during a mission. In his moments of leisure, he is often seen fishing alone beside the rocky shores of Falcon Island.

Daijiro's primary role in the story is as the defense tactician of the Voltes Team. He pilots the Volt Panzer, which forms the chest and body of the giant robot Voltes V. In combat, his focus is on defensive maneuvers and the deployment of shields to protect the robot from attacks by the Boazanian Beast Fighters, using his strategic mind to mitigate damage. His martial arts skills also lend themselves to close-quarters combat when the robot is formed.

The driving force behind Daijiro’s actions is initially rooted in the loss of his father, who he believed had abandoned the family. This belief changes when he and his brothers discover their half-Boazanian heritage and learn that their father was actually a Boazanian prince who returned to his home planet to negotiate peace, only to be imprisoned by the tyrannical Emperor Zambajil. This revelation causes significant internal conflict as he struggles to reconcile his human upbringing with his newfound alien ancestry. His motivation transforms from resolving a personal loss to a larger goal of liberating his father and freeing the oppressed, hornless population of Boazan, while still remaining steadfast in his duty to defend Earth.

Daijiro shares a close bond with his family and teammates. He has a protective instinct, especially towards his younger brother, Hiyoshi. Despite his cynicism, he works with his older brother, Kenichi, to master key techniques, such as helping Kenichi learn the Butterfly Return maneuver for use against a powerful enemy. Within the team, he often acts as a mediator, helping to resolve tensions between the more headstrong members like Kenichi and Ippei Mine. His loyalty to his teammates is unwavering. One of his most significant relationships is with his long-lost father. During his time as a prisoner of the Boazanians, Daijiro was the first of the brothers to reunite directly with Professor Gō in an emotionally charged encounter inside the prison, which led to a failed but daring escape attempt.

Daijiro undergoes considerable development over the course of the series. He starts as a cynical boy hardened by abandonment but evolves into a hopeful and dedicated young man. His discovery of his father’s true mission and continued survival reinforces his determination rather than diminishing it. The sacrifice of his mother, Mitsuyo, to save the Voltes team further hardens his resolve to protect his remaining family and fulfill his father’s vision of justice and liberation for all Boazanians, both horned and hornless. He joins the team on their journey to Boazan to overthrow the oppressive regime, and his defensive strategies and martial prowess prove vital in the final assault that frees the enslaved population. After the victory, Daijiro continues to serve as a pilot, committed to protecting the Earth alongside his brothers and teammates.
