Description
Yasutoshi Miura, born 15 July 1965 in Shizuoka, Japan, grew up in an area that evolved into a football hub following the launch of the nation’s inaugural junior league. Alongside his younger brother, Kazuyoshi Miura, he cultivated a shared passion for the sport, honing skills that propelled both toward professional careers. After graduating from Shizuoka Gakuen High School, Yasutoshi ventured abroad in 1984, signing with Brazil’s Santos FC—a pivotal step that introduced him to international football.

His playing career flourished across Japanese clubs, from Yomiuri (later Verdy Kawasaki) to Shimizu S-Pulse, Avispa Fukuoka, and Vissel Kobe, excelling as both defender and midfielder. At Yomiuri, he played a key role in securing the 1987 Asian Club Championship, cementing the team’s regional dominance. A 1992 transfer to Shimizu S-Pulse brought him nearer to his hometown, where his consistent performances reinforced his stature as a dependable figure on the pitch.

Yasutoshi earned three international caps for Japan in 1993, debuting against Ivory Coast and featuring in 1994 World Cup qualifiers. Deployed as a left side-back, his tactical discipline and versatility bolstered the squad’s defensive efforts during critical matches.

Retiring in 2003, he shifted to management, steering clubs like Giravanz Kitakyushu, Tokyo Verdy, and Kagoshima United FC. His leadership shone in 2018 when he guided Kagoshima United FC to promotion into the J2 League. By 2021, he helmed Suzuka Point Getters, sustaining his enduring influence in football administration.

His lifelong bond with brother Kazuyoshi—whose trailblazing career included an early move to Brazil and subsequent stardom in Japan—underscored their shared legacy. Rooted in Shizuoka’s football culture, their parallel journeys as players and mentors mirrored a collective commitment to elevating the sport’s prominence in their homeland.
