Description
Guard Rescue is a supporting robot character from the anime The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird, where he serves as a member of the Guard Team, a specialized unit within the Space Police Force. His primary function is emergency rescue and medical response, and to fulfill this role on Earth, his alternate form is that of an ambulance. He is capable of combining with his teammates Guard Star and Guard Fire to form the larger robot Guardian, and can further combine with a fourth member, Guard Wing, to form Super Guardian.

Before joining the Space Police, Guard Rescue was a student at a Space Medical College. He had volunteered to work as an assistant at the college's medical facility but was not selected. Following this unsuccessful application, he was introduced to the Space Police Force and enlisted, eventually becoming part of the Guard Team. This medical background heavily influences his function and arsenal, as he is equipped with a diverse array of tools that are primarily designed for search-and-rescue operations and medical treatment, though these can also be applied in combat situations.

Personality-wise, Guard Rescue is characterized as having a mild and kind disposition, especially when compared to some of his more hot-headed teammates. He frequently acts as a mediator within the Guard Team, often stepping in to resolve trivial disputes or conflicts between other members like Guard Fire and Guard Wing. Despite his gentle nature, he is a capable fighter, and there is an implication that his calm demeanor belies a considerable inner strength that could manifest forcefully if his limits are reached.

In the story, Guard Rescue travels to Earth along with the rest of the Space Police Force, including Fighbird and the Baron Team, on a mission to apprehend the villain Draias. Upon arriving on Earth, he bonds with a rescue truck parked outside a family residence, taking on that vehicle as his physical form. Throughout the series, he develops a significant relationship with Dr. Yoshiko Kunieda, befriending her and making her one of the few humans who knows the true identities of the Space Police members. He also demonstrates his medical expertise by, for example, using his medical sprayer to heal an injured giant gorilla in one episode.

Guard Rescue's development culminates after the final defeat of Draias. Like the other Space Police members, he decides to remain on Earth permanently, living in his original, human-like body. He adopts the human name Croitz Rouge to integrate into society.

His notable abilities are extensive and largely designed for rescue. Among his named equipment are the High Tension Bandage, a long strip that can be shot from his arms to restrain enemies or secure objects; the Rescue Grenade, small projectiles fired rapidly from his forearms; the Plasma Torch, a pair of forearm-mounted cutting tools; the Safety Barrier, an energy net released to catch falling people or objects; and the Rescue Cargo, which forms a box-like container on his arm for transporting individuals to safety. He also possesses features common to the Guard Team, such as the ability to don a battle helmet with the command Met On, deploy treads on his feet for high-speed ground movement, and likely uses a pair of back-mounted beam cannons for combat. Furthermore, he can deploy claw arms from his wrists to safely retrieve people and has a medical sprayer for treating injuries.
